Leopold Café
The Leopold Cafe and Bar is a restaurant and bar on Colaba Causeway, in Colaba area of Mumbai, India, located across from the Colaba Police station. It was one of the first sites attacked in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. History The Leopold Cafe was founded in 1871 by Irani (India), Iranis (a term used for Zoroastrians in Mumbai who arrived in India in the 19th century, as opposed to "Parsis") and named after King Leopold of the Belgians. These Zoroastrian Iranians came to India in the late 19th and early 20th century, and many of them opened restaurants now often termed Irani cafés. It first started out as a wholesale cooking oil store and over the years has variously been a restaurant, store and pharmacy (hence the name "Leopold Cafe & Stores"). The Trident Nariman Point is a luxury hotel on Marine Drive in Nariman Point, Mumbai, India. It is owned and operated by the Trident Hotels division of The Oberoi Group. It has 35 floors, on completion in 1973, it was the tallest building in South Asia, surpassing the Express Towers, located next door. Café Mondegar
Cafe Mondegar ( a.k.a. Café Mondegar and Mondy's) is a popular landmark and tourist attraction of Colaba, Mumbai. Famous Indian cartoonist and painter Mario Miranda painted murals (his cartoons) on all inner walls and entrance ceiling of the restaurant. History Cafe Mondegar was started in 1932 by Iranian Zoroastrians (Parsi settlers in India) as an Irani café. The current building (Metro House), then housed a hotel called ''Apollo Hotel'' and the café was started in the reception area of the hotel. By the mid 20th century, the café introduced a jukebox, (first in Mumbai) and was simultaneously converted into a restaurant. ''Shantaram'' is a 2003 novel by Gregory David Roberts, in which a convicted Australian bank robber and heroin addict escapes from Pentridge Prison and flees to India. The novel is commended by many for its vivid portrayal of life in Bombay in the 1980s. The novel is reportedly influenced by real events in the life of the author, though some claims made by Roberts are contested by others involved in the story. Sourav Mishra
Sourav Mishra ( (saurabh mishra), born 1 July 1979) is an Indian journalist and artist. As a Reuters journalist he was one of the first witnesses and victim of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, a three-day rampage in which more than 164 people lost their lives. Mishra was with friends at Leopold Café when the terrorists opened fire on 26 November 2008. The café, a popular joint in South Mumbai, was one of the first locations to be targeted by the gunmen. Mishra received severe bullet injuries below his left shoulder and was taken to St. George's Hospital before being moved to a private hospital. His name also appeared in the state government's initial list of the dead, which was later withdrawn.
