Leonardo Gonçalves
Leonardo Ribeiro Gonçalves (born 1 March 1996) is a Brazilian judoka. Career At the 2015 World Judo Juniors Championships, he won a silver medal in the −100 kg category. At the 2017 Pan American Judo Championships held in Panama, he won a bronze medal in the Half-heavyweight (100 kg) category. At the 2018 Pan American Judo Championships held in San José, Costa Rica, Gonçalves won his biggest title, winning a gold medal in the 100 kg category. At the 2018 South American Games held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, he got the title, winning a gold medal in the 100 kg category. At the 2019 Pan American Judo Championships held in Lima, Peru, he won a silver medal in the Half-heavyweight (100 kg) category. At the 2019 World Judo Championships held in Tokyo, Japan, making his debut at the Adult World Championships, Gonçalves faced Zelym Kotsoiev, from Azerbaijan, who would later become European champion and World Championships medalist. Iguape is a municipality located into the Ribeira Valley in the southern portion of the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo, Brazil. The International Judo Federation (IJF) is the international governing body for judo, founded in July 1951. Today the IJF has 200 National Federations on all continents. There are over 20 million people around the globe who practice judo, according to the IJF. History On July 11, 1951 in London, the representatives of the European Judo Union (Great Britain, France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) received the candidacy of Argentina and the International Judo Federation was created. The Judo Grand Slam tournaments are international judo tournaments held by the International Judo Federation as part of the IJF World Tour. After the Olympic Games, World Championships and World Masters, the Grand Slam tournaments are the highest-ranking worldwide judo tournaments, i.e. the tournaments in which the judoka can acquire the most ranking points.
