Leonard Padilla
Leonard Padilla (born 1939) was chairman of the board of trustees of the Lorenzo Patiño Law School, which he opened with Judge Lorenzo Patiño in 1982. Padilla has run for public office seven times, four times for Mayor of Sacramento, once for California governor in the 2003 recall election, once for Congress, and once for Sacramento County Supervisor. The alternative weekly newspaper ''Sacramento News & Review'' named him one of Sacramento's most interesting people in 2010. Early life Leonard Padilla was born in Firebaugh, California. After graduating from Tulelake High School in 1957, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving four years before being discharged in 1961. The University of Northern California, Lorenzo Patiño School of Law (UNC) was a private law school located in Sacramento, California. UNC offered a part-time, four-year law program as well as a paralegal program. Law school registration was terminated during the June 28–29, 2013 meeting of the State Bar. As of June 30, 2013, UNC was no longer listed as a law school by the State Bar of California Committee of Bar Examiners and the University of Northern California's website removed the listing of the Juris Doctor as one of its academic programs. History The law school was founded in 1983 by Rose and Leonard Padilla, Lorenzo Patino, Douglas Nareau, Greg Padilla, Danny Brace and Herman Smith as the University of Northern California. 2003 California Gubernatorial Recall Election
The 2003 California gubernatorial recall election was a special election permitted under California state law. It resulted in voters replacing incumbent Democratic Governor Gray Davis with Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger. The recall effort spanned the latter half of 2003. Seven of the nine previous governors, including Davis, had faced unsuccessful recall attempts. After several legal and procedural efforts failed to stop it, California's first-ever gubernatorial recall election was held on October 7, and the results were certified on November 14, 2003, making Davis the first governor recalled in the history of California, and just the second in U.S. history (the first was North Dakota's 1921 recall of Lynn Frazier). Firebaugh, California
Firebaugh is a city in Fresno County, California, United States, on the west side of the San Joaquin River 38 miles (61 km) west of Fresno. State Route 33 (SR 33) and the San Joaquin Valley Railroad, West Side Subdivision, pass through downtown. A small commercial district features the ubiquitous California Central Valley water tank painted with the city's name. Firebaugh lies at an elevation of 151 feet (46 m). The population was 7,549 at the 2010 census, up from 5,743 as of 2000. Firebaugh hosts an annual Cantaloupe Round-Up Festival in Dunkle Park. Tulelake ( ) is a city in northeastern Siskiyou County, California, United States. The town is named after nearby Tule Lake. Its population is 902 as of the 2020 census, down from 1,010 from the 2010 census. Tulelake peace officers are authorized by state law, along with cooperation of the state of Oregon, to serve as and be recognized as peace officers within Malin, Oregon, along with the inverse being true for peace officers employed within Malin, wherein they are recognized as peace officers within Tulelake by the California Penal Code.
