Leonard Nicholson
Leonard Hanson Nicholson, OC, MBE (June 8, 1904 – March 22, 1983) served as the tenth Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, from May 1, 1951 to March 31, 1959. Nicolson served with the RCMP from 1923 to 1927 (and again from 1932 to 1941), New Brunswick Provincial Police 1928–1930, Nova Scotia Police 1930–1932, then with the Canadian Army from 1941 to 1951. Nicholson had only a primary school education leaving school to assist his family. He served as a Provost marshal in World War II. He also served as deputy Chief Scout of Scouts Canada. In 1971, Nicholson was awarded the 71st ''Bronze Wolf'', the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting. Legacy The Royal Canadian Mounted Police headquarters building in Ottawa, Ontario was named after Nicholson. Stuart Zachary Taylor Wood, CMG (October 17, 1889 – January 4, 1966) served as the ninth Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, from March 6, 1938 to April 30, 1951.'' Who's Who'' Early life and career Born in Napanee, Ontario, Wood's father, Zachary Taylor Wood, CMG served in the North-West Mounted Police from 1885 to 1915 and was Acting Commissioner of the Force. Wood attended the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario where he graduated in 1912. Shortly after he secured a commission in the RNW Mounted Police and served with the Force until his retirement in 1951, almost forty years. Wood himself served in World War I as a lieutenant in the cavalry in France and Belgium. He served in the Yukon upon returning to Canada in 1919 as Justice of the Peace, Coroner, Sheriff, Game Inspector and Customs Officer. Charles Rivett-Carnac
Charles Edward Rivett-Carnac (August 31, 1901 – July 18, 1980) was a Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Biography Early life A descendant of Sir James Rivett-Carnac, Rivett-Carnac, was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England and soon after his birth, was taken by his father to Assam in India. He lived there until he returned to England at the age of six and spent his early childhood living with an aunt and uncle. He attended St Cyprian's School and when he was 14 went on to Eastbourne College as a boarder. A year later he was moved again to live with a different aunt in London, where he went to a local grammar school. Rivett-Carnac did not enjoy school, and during World War I loaned money off a friend to learn to drive so that he could join the British Red Cross as an ambulance driver.
