Leon Chambers
Leon Chambers (born 17 April 1998) is an American-born Australian representative rower. He was twice an Australian U23 national champion and represented in the lightweight double-scull at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing Chambers' senior club rowing in Australia is from the Sydney University Boat Club. In 2018 in SUBC colours, Chambers contested and won the U23 men's lightweight single scull and the lightweight double scull title (with Matthew Curtin) at the Australian Rowing Championships. International representative rowing Chambers made his Australian representative debut at the 2018 World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne in a lightweight double scull . Sydney University Boat Club
Sydney University Boat Club is the rowing club in Sydney, Australia with the oldest charter having been formed in 1860 by the founders of the University of Sydney. It has had a boatshed presence in various locations on Sydney Harbour since 1886, excepting between 1941 and 1966. A varsity and recreational club during most of its history, the Boat Club has since the 1990s had a focus on its high performance and elite rowing programs. Supported by the University's Sports Union the Club has developed an increasing number of Olympic representative oarsmen and women in the new millennium with club members rowing in twenty-two seats in those Australian Olympic crews who represented between Athens 2004 and Tokyo 2021. World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non- Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. History The first event was held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1962. The event then was held every four years until 1974, when it became an annual competition. Also in 1974, Men's lightweight and Women's open weight events were added to the championships. Initially, Men's events were 2000 metres long and Women's events 1000 metres. At the 1984 World Championships in Montreal, Canada, Women's lightweight demonstration events were raced over a 2000-metre course for the first time. Hamish Parry
Hamish Parry (born 3 April 1994) is a former Australian representative lightweight rower. He was a nine-time national champion in both sculling and sweep-oared crews and has sculled at underage and senior world championships from 2013 to 2021. Club and state rowing Parry attended St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace in Brisbane where he took up rowing. Parry's senior club rowing has been from the Toowoong Rowing Club in Queensland. His state representative debut for Queensland came in 2016 in the lightweight four which contested and won the Penrith Cup at the Interstate Regatta. He rowed in further Queensland lightweight fours racing for the Penrith Cup in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He stroked those crews in 2018 and 2019. In 2015 and 2016 Parry won the open lightweight men's eight national titles rowing in composite Queensland crews at the Australian Rowing Championships. 2019 World Rowing Championships
The 2019 World Rowing Championships were held in Ottensheim, Austria from 25 August to 1 September 2019. Apart from Ottensheim, the right to host the championships was contested by Hamburg in Germany, Račice in the Czech Republic, and Varese in Italy. The event determined the majority of qualifiers to the rowing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. On 21 August, three days before the championships, para-rower Dzmitry Ryshkevich from Belarus died after he capsized during a training session. He was expected to participate in the PR1M1x at his third consecutive championships.
