Leo Determan
Leo Determan (born 7 April 1949 in Rotterdam) is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2008 Vintage Yachting Games in Medemblik The Netherlands. Determan in the middle together with helmsman Rudy den Outer and Ronald den Arend on the foredeck took the Gold medal in the Soling. Leo holds several Dutch titles (1995, 1999, 2000, 2008 and 2001) and one Italian title (2010) in the Soling. He used to be member of Yacht Club ''VZOD'', Rotterdam. Sailing After sailing as crew on a " Vrijheid class", Determan purchased the Flying Dutchman H 125 "Aquarius" in 1970. With Rudy den Outer he sailed Flying Dutchman, Spanker (a Dutch National class) and Soling for many years and for a brief period Tempest. Depending on the class they changed positions as crew or helmsman. Professional life Determan works in the mineral oil industry. Muiden
Muiden () is a city and former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It lies at the mouth of the Vecht and is in an area called the Vechtstreek. Since 2016, Muiden has been part of the new municipality of Gooise Meren. History The first known reference to Muiden is from 953 when Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor, granted the settlement and its toll rights to Cathedral of Saint Martin, Utrecht. It was called ''Amuda'', meaning "mouth of the (river) A". "A" was the old name for the Vecht river. In 1122 Muiden was, together with Utrecht, granted some city rights by Emperor Henry V. After the lands around Muiden were given to Count Floris V, he began building Muider Castle at the mouth of the Vecht river. Muiden once again received city rights in 1296. Soling National Champions
All over the world, national Soling associations held since 1968 national championships. In some counties the winner of the event became the national champion even if the winning team came from a different country, like the Netherlands, Sweden or the United States. In other countries like Germany, Austria or Italy the champion is the first team from the organizing country even if they do not win the event. A tanker (or tank ship or tankship) is a ship designed to transport or store liquids or gases in bulk. Major types of tankship include the oil tanker, the chemical tanker, and gas carrier. Den Helder
Den Helder () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Den Helder occupies the northernmost point of the North Holland peninsula. It is home to the country's main naval base. From here the Royal TESO ferryboat service operates the transportation link between Den Helder and the nearby Dutch Wadden island of Texel to the north. Etymology Before the year 1928 the official name of Den Helder was Helder. The origin of the name Helder is not entirely clear. The name Helder may have come from ''Helle/Helde'', which means "hill" or "hilly grounds", or from ''Helre'', which means a sandy ridge.
