Lent Festival
Lent Festival The Lent International Summer Festival is a major arts festival held for approximately two weeks at the end of June annually in Maribor, Slovenia. Organized by the Narodni dom Cultural Center every year the festival attracts theatre, opera, ballet performers, classical, modern, and jazz musicians and dancers from all over the world as well as visitors. There are also mimes, magicians, and acrobats performing during the festival. There are several sub festivals including the Otroški Lent (Children's Lent) which is organized to cater for the interests of children and the ''Lent International Jazz Festival'' which has attracted some of the world's most famous names including Ray Charles, B.B. Zoran Predin
Zoran Predin (born 16 June 1958) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter from Maribor. In the 1980s, he was the front man of the new wave rock band ''Lačni Franz''. He also writes music for film, television, and theatre. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he went on several tours with the rock singers Pero Lovšin and Vlado Kreslin. Among others, they composed the anthem of the Slovenia national football team for the 2000 European Football Championship. He has also been active in public life. In the late 1990s, he publicly supported the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia. Vlado Kreslin
Vlado Kreslin (born 29 November 1953) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter and folk rock musician. Life and work Kreslin was born in the village of Beltinci in the Prekmurje region of Slovenia, then part of Yugoslavia. He began his musical career in his student years, first coming to acclaim as the lead singer with the rock group '' Martin Krpan''. He later continued playing a mixture of Slovene folk and rock music with the ''Beltinška Banda'', a folk group from his native village, whose other members were all over 70 years old, and the group ''Mali Bogovi''. Both groups (with him) often perform together, mixing several generations onstage together. Stéphane Grappelli
Stéphane Grappelli (; 26 January 1908 – 1 December 1997) was a French jazz violinist. He is best known as a founder of the Quintette du Hot Club de France with guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1934. It was one of the first all-string jazz bands. He has been called "the grandfather of jazz violinists" and continued playing concerts around the world well into his eighties. For the first three decades of his career, he was billed using a gallicised spelling of his last name, ''Grappelly'', reverting to the Italian spelling ''Grappelli'' in 1969. Ray Charles
Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. He is regarded as one of the most iconic and influential musicians in history, and was often referred to by contemporaries as "The Genius". Maribor
Maribor ( , , ; also known by other #Name, historical names) is the List of cities and towns in Slovenia, second-largest city in Slovenia and the largest city of the traditional region of Styria (Slovenia), Lower Styria. A mime artist, or simply mime (from Greek language, Greek , , "imitator, actor"), is a person who uses ''mime'' (also called ''pantomime'' outside of Britain), the acting out of a story through body motions without the use of speech, as a theatrical medium or as a performance art. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
