Biography

Possibly running from the law after killing a man in a duel over a woman, Von Lengerke left Germany and went to Colombia in 1852, where he settled down in the then state of Santander State, Santander. Once settled, he dedicated himself to cultivation of cinchona, cinchona (quina) and its commercialization as well as road construction and land development. His property spread over 12,000 hectares. Wilhelm Von Lengerke
__NOTOC__ Wilhelm von Lengerke (17 June 1894 – 26 August 1942) was a general in the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Lengerke was killed 26 August 1942 during the Battle of Stalingrad. He was posthumously promoted to Generalmajor. He is now buried in Lüneburg, Germany.
