Lella Cuberli (September 29, 1945) is an American soprano, particularly associated with the Belcanto repertory. Born Lela Alice Terrell in Austin, Texas, she studied in Dallas and later in Milan. She made her professional debut in Siena, in 1973, and for some years pursued her career mainly in Italy, making her mark in Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini operas. She sang at Martina Franca from 1976 to 1982, as Amenaide, Adalgisa, and in Paisiello operas. She appeared at La Scala from 1978 to 1985, as Aminta, Ginevra, Rodelinda, Giunia, Contessa di Folleville . Other roles at the major opera houses of Italy have included; Donna Anna, Fiordiligi, Rossini's Elisabetta and Desdemona, etc. She also appeared at the Paris Opéra, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival. Lella Secor Florence (February 13, 1887 – January 14, 1966), née Lella Faye Secor, was an American writer, journalist, pacifist, feminist and pioneer of birth control. Early life Lella Faye Secor was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1892 her family moved to Ventura, California before moving to Green Bay, Wisconsin and finally, in 1898, returning to Battle Creek. Her father abandoned the family, and her mother ran a boarding house. Journalism career and peace activist In 1906 she became a journalist in Battle Creek and then in a variety of towns in Washington state. She sailed on the Henry Ford Peace Ship in 1915 as a reporter. Maria Grazia "Lella" Lombardi (26 March 1941 – 3 March 1992) was an Italian racing driver who participated in 17 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix. Lombardi is one of two female drivers to qualify for Formula One and is the only female who scored points in Formula One. Lombardi grew up in Italy and developed an interest in racing by driving a delivery van for her family. Starting in karting and moving to Formula Monza and Formula Three, Lombardi advanced through racing until she reached Formula One. She is the only woman to win points in Formula One, winning half a point in the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Lombardi had an eventful driving career, aside from Formula One. Lella Ricci (1850 – 7 October 1871) was an Italian opera singer. She was born in Italy as Adelaide Ricci to composer Luigi Ricci and opera singer Ludmila Stolz (1826–1910; the sister of Teresa Stolz). She inherited musical talent and enjoyed a great success in the Theatre ''Principe Umberto'' in Florence. Emilio Usiglio composed the opera ''La scommessa'' for her (the first performance was on July 6, 1870, in Florence). At age 21, Lella Ricci was invited by Bedřich Smetana to Prague to sing in the comic opera ''Crispino e la comare'' composed by her father. When in Prague she became pregnant (possibly by Smetana) but to keep her career she chose abortion and died due to internal bleeding. Luigi Di Lella (born in Naples, 7 December 1937) is an Italian experimental particle physicist. He has been a staff member at CERN for over 40 years, and has played an important role in major experiments at CERN such as CAST and UA2. From 1986 to 1990 he acted as spokesperson for the UA2 Collaboration, which, together with the UA1 Collaboration, discovered the W and Z bosons in 1983. Education After moving from his child-hood home in Naples, Italy, Di Lella studied physics at the University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa.
