Leiv Erdal
Leiv Erdal (11 August 1915 – 20 November 2009) was a Norwegian military officer, bailiff and politician for the Centre Party. He was born in Naustdal as a son of farmer, bailiff and mayor Bendik Henriksen Erdal (1879–1937) and housewife Oleanna Mathiasdatter Naustdal (1884–1966). He finished primary school in 1929 and worked from 1930 to 1933 with farming and animals. From 1933 to 1934 he attended Fana Folk High School, and he then took agricultural school in Førde for two years and officer training in Bergen to 1937. He became a Sergeant in 1938 and Second Lieutenant ( Fenrik) in 1939. During World War II he fought for Norway in Valdres and Fjordane during the Norwegian Campaign in 1940. He was decorated with the Defence Medal 1940–1945. He was the bailiff of Fjaler from 1940 to 1941 and acting bailiff of Naustdal from 1941 to 1942, but was then fired by the Nazi authorities. Centre Party (Norway)
The Centre Party ( no, Senterpartiet, Sp; se, Guovddášbellodat), formerly the Farmer's Party ( no, Bondepartiet, Bp), is an agrarian political party in Norway. Ideologically, the Centre Party is positioned in the centre on the political spectrum, it advocates for economic nationalist and protectionist policy to protect Norwegian farmers with toll tariffs, and it supports decentralisation. It was founded in 1920 as the Farmers' Party ( no, link=no, Bondepartiet, Bp) and from its founding until 2000, the Centre Party joined only governments not led by the Labour Party, although it had previously supported a Labour government in the 1930s. This turned around in 2005, when the party joined the red–green coalition government led by the Labour Party. Sunnfjord Folkemuseum
Sunnfjord ( en, the southern fjord - in contrast to Nordfjord) is a traditional district in Western Norway located in Vestland county. It includes the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, the southernmost parts of Kinn, Sunnfjord, and the southernmost parts of Bremanger. It covers an area of about and has a population (2016) of 43,324–about 8% of the population of Vestland county. The central geographical characteristic of the Sunnfjord region are the fjords: Dalsfjorden and Førdefjorden. It is a tourist region, with waterfalls, fishing, white-water rafting, glaciers, hiking, and scenery–including Jostedalsbreen National Park. The area was the site of the largest air battle over Norway during World War II, and a museum is dedicated to the event in Naustdal. John Austrheim
John Austrheim (10 October 1912 – 13 April 1995) was a Norwegian politician, farmer for the Centre Party. Born in Gloppen, Sogn og Fjordane, Austrheim had no more than a primary education, and worked as a farmer when he was elected mayor of his municipality Gloppen in 1955. He had previously been a municipality council member from 1945 to 1951, and served as mayor until 1962. In 1967 he was elected leader of the Centre Party, a position he took over after Per Borten, who was serving as Prime Minister at the time. Austrheim held this post until 1973. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Østfold in 1961, and was re-elected on three occasions. He had previously served in the position of deputy representative during the term 1958–1961. Borten's Cabinet resigned in 1971, but when the Centre Party returned to power on 18 October 1972, Austrheim was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications in the new cabinet of Lars Korvald. Sogn Og Fjordane
Sogn og Fjordane (; English: "Sogn and Fjordane") was, up to 1 January 2020, a county in western Norway, when it was merged to become part of Vestland county. Bordering previous counties Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, Buskerud, and Hordaland, the county administration was in the village of Hermansverk in Leikanger municipality. The largest town in the county was Førde. Although Sogn og Fjordane has some industry, predominantly hydroelectricity and aluminium, it is predominantly an agricultural area. Sogn og Fjordane is also home to the Urnes Stave Church and the Nærøyfjord, which are both listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
