Leisure Horses
Leisure horses are intended for pleasure riding, and in particular for trail riding by private individuals. Difficult to define, it is above all an animal endowed with particular qualities, rather than a precise breed. It must be versatile and calm in character, with a willing and courageous mind. As early as the 1970s, breeders such as those of the Swiss Freiberger were breeding animals for this then-new use. The market for leisure horses is now buoyant. France has created "leisure qualifications" for this purpose. Raising such a horse often involves reducing sensitivity to external stimuli and early handling of foals. Horses retired from horseracing can also be re-educated for leisure. A draft horse (US) or draught horse (UK), also known as dray horse, carthorse, work horse or heavy horse, is a large horse bred to be a working animal hauling freight and doing heavy agricultural tasks such as plowing. Henson Horse
The Henson horse, or cheval de Henson, is a modern horse breed from northwest France. It was created by the selective breeding of light saddle horses with the smaller, heavier Fjord horse, Norwegian Fjord horse to create small horses suitable for the equestrian vacation industry. Franches-Montagnes (horse)
The Freiberger or Franches-Montagnes is a Swiss breed of horse of light draught type. It originates in the Canton of Jura in north-western Switzerland, and is named for the Freiberge or Franches-Montagnes District in the south of that canton. It is widely distributed in Switzerland, and is also present in France and Belgium. It was formerly used principally as a farm horse or by the Swiss army; it is now used mainly for driving and riding. The Standardbred is an American horse breed best known for its ability in harness racing where they compete at either a trot or pace. French Trotter
The French Trotter or is a French breed of trotting horse bred for racing at the trot, either ridden or in harness. It was bred specifically for racing in the nineteenth century, principally in Normandy in north-western France. Pony Of The Americas
The Pony of Americas is a pony breed developed in the state of Iowa in the United States. The foundation stallion was an Arabian/ Appaloosa/ Shetland pony cross. A breed registry was founded in 1954, and within 15 years had registered 15,000 ponies. Today, the Pony of the Americas Club is one of the largest and most active youth-oriented horse breed registrie in the US. Although called ponies, POAs have the phenotype of a small horse, combining mainly Arabian and American Quarter Horse attributes. The registry is open, allowing blood from many other breeds, but has strict criteria for entry, including Appaloosa coloration, specified height and other physical characteristics.
