Leila Dance
Leila Dance (born ) is a Canadian politician who served as a member of Parliament (MP) representing the riding of Elmwood—Transcona from 2024 to 2025. A member of the New Democratic Party (NDP), she was first elected to the House of Commons in the 2024 by-election. Political career Dance was elected seat in the 2024 Elmwood—Transcona federal by-election and won with 48% of the vote. Dance succeeded outgoing MP Daniel Blaikie, who stepped down to take a position working for the Manitoba government under the leadership of NDP Premier Wab Kinew. Prior to her election, Dance was executive director of the Transcona Business Improvement Zone, a position she had for four years. Elmwood—Transcona (formerly Winnipeg—Transcona) is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1988. Its population in 2021 was 101,691. History The riding was created in 1987 from Winnipeg North Centre and Winnipeg—Birds Hill ridings. It was previously named Winnipeg—Transcona from 1987 to 2003. Wabanakwut "Wab" Kinew (born December 31, 1981) is a Canadian politician who has served as the 25th premier of Manitoba since October 18, 2023 and the leader of the Manitoba New Democratic Party (NDP) since September 16, 2017. Kinew represents Fort Rouge in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and was the leader of the Opposition from 2017 until the NDP's victory in the 2023 Manitoba election. Daniel Blaikie is a Canadian politician who served as the member of Parliament (MP) for Elmwood—Transcona from October 19, 2015 until March 31, 2024. A member of the New Democratic Party (NDP), he was elected to the House of Commons in the 2015 federal election.
