Leif Castberg
Leif Castberg (23 April 1876 – 3 March 1950) was a Norwegian lawyer and politician for the Radical People's Party (Norway), Radical People's Party and the Conservative Party (Norway), Conservative Party. Personal life He was born in Skien as a son of customs surveyor and politician Johan Christian Tandberg Castberg (1827–1899) and his wife Hanna Magdalene Frisak Ebbesen (1839–1881). Radical People's Party (Norway)
The Radical People's Party (), founded as the Labour Democrats (Norwegian: ''Arbeiderdemokratene''), was a radical political party in Norway mainly active from 1906 to 1936, targeting workers and smallholders. The party was founded by Johan Castberg, who led the party until his death in 1926. He was succeeded in this position by Alf Mjøen, who also represented the party as a member of the Storting. History The party was a successor to the United Norwegian Workers' Association (Norwegian: ''De forenede norske Arbeidersamfund'', DFNA), a labour organisation associated with the Liberal Party, which due to conflicts with the mother party fielded Johan Castberg as a parliamentary candidate in the 1900 election. ''Merkantilt biografisk leksikon: hvem er hvem i næringslivet?'' () was a Norwegian-language encyclopedia published by Yrkesforlaget in 1935. It featured approximately 10,000 short biographical entries for Norwegian businesspeople, and was edited by Einar Hoffstad (1894–1959). It was printed by Grøndahl & Søns Boktrykkeri. The purpose of the encyclopedia was to "remedy the need to know something about the individuals one is trading with". The entries contain little genealogical information, and the parents of the portrayed businesspeople are not included. Abbreviations are used extensively to save space and money. The editor, Einar Hoffstad, stated in the foreword of the encyclopedia that it was not a parallel to the ''Who's Who'' reference works, although the title could imply that.
