Lehigh Valley Roller Derby
Lehigh Valley Roller Derby (LVRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. The league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Founded as Lehigh Valley Rollergirls in January 2006, the league was the first skater-operated flat track roller derby league in the area. Lehigh Valley was founded by Elaina Borchelt. Lehigh Valley joined the WFTDA Apprentice Program in 2009, and became a full member of the WFTDA in 2010. In 2014 the league was averaging 300 fans at home games at the Independence Family Fun Center in Schnecksville. The league now hosts home games at Bethlehem Municipal Ice Rink in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Teams In 2009, the league expanded to a three-team structure, with the Blast Furnace Betties and Metal Vixens home teams feeding the All-Stars, who represent Lehigh Valley against teams from other leagues. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. The WFTDA's East Region was formed in 2006. In 2009, teams from the western part of the region were moved into the North Central and South Central Regions. The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organized by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2007 as the Inaugural National WFTDA Championship "Texas Shootout" held in Austin, Texas. Schnecksville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in North Whitehall Township in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. WFTDA Apprentice Program
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice was the program affiliate of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In operation from 2009 until early 2019, the Apprentice Program served to onboard new member leagues into the WFTDA. In February 2019, the WFTDA announced it was retiring the program, to be replaced with a new "New Member Program" in the near future.
