Miguel López De Legazpi
Miguel López de Legazpi (12 June 1502 – 20 August 1572), also known as ''Adelantado, El Adelantado'' and ''El Viejo'' (The Elder), was a Spanish conquistador who financed and led an expedition to conquer the Philippines, Philippine islands in the mid-16th century. He was joined by Guido de Lavezares, relative Martin de Goiti, friar Andrés de Urdaneta, and his grandsons Juan de Salcedo, Juan and Felipe de Salcedo, in the expedition. Legazpi established the first Spanish settlement in the East Indies after his expedition crossed the Pacific Ocean, arriving in Cebu in 1565. He became the first Governor-General of the Philippines, governor-general of the Spanish East Indies, which was administered from New Spain for the Spanish Empire, Spanish crown. It also encompassed other Pacific islands, namely Guam, the Mariana Islands, Palau, and the Caroline Islands, Carolinas. Legazpi, Gipuzkoa
Legazpi is a city in the Gipuzkoa province of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, northern Spain. Legazpi is a town of about 9,000 inhabitants located on top of the Urola valley, in Gipuzkoa. Surrounded by mountains, and at the foot of the Aizkorri mountain range, its predominant economic activity is industrial (manufacturing, metal processing, plastics). The rich industrial tradition of Legazpi goes back to the High Middle Ages, when transformation of iron ore was achieved by means of the ''haizeolak'' ("ironworks moved by wind"). During the 14th century, wind energy came to be replaced by water in the metal processing with the foundation of several "ironworks propelled by water" (''ur'' 'water' and ''ola'' originally 'shack', are the two lexical components of " Urola", a river crossing Legazpi). Legaspi, Cagdianao
Cagdianao, officially the Municipality of Cagdianao ( Surigaonon: ''Lungsod nan Cagdianao''; ; ), is a municipality in the province of Dinagat Islands, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 18,350 people. Etymology Cagdianao is derived from ''kagdianao'', an alternate form of ''kaagdao-an'', meaning "place where mangroves grow", from ''agdao'', a local name for a species of mangrove. History The town became a part of the province of Dinagat Islands in December 2006, when the province was created from Surigao del Norte by Republic Act No. 9355. However, in February 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional, as the necessary requirements for provincial land area and population were not met. The town reverted to Surigao del Norte. The Diocese of Legazpi (Latin: ''Dioecesis Legazpiensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church. It constitutes the entire province of Albay in the Philippines. The diocese was erected in 1951, carved from territory of the Archdiocese of Cáceres, to which it is a suffragan. In 1974, the diocese was partitioned to form the Diocese of Virac. Most Rev. Joel "Bong" Z. Baylon, D.D. is the current Bishop of Legazpi, after serving as Bishop of Masbate. Jose Borromeo Legaspi Memorial National High School (JBLMNHS) is a public secondary school located in Barangay Aranas, Balete, Aklan, Philippines. It is recognized by the Department of Education. History Recognizing the need for a secondary school in the Barangay, Jean Oquendo Rodriguez who was then the Mayor of Balete, initiated a plan to create a school with Elna Perez Beltran and Abundio R. Guadalupe who worked on the papers for the approval of the proposal. Although there was already a private secondary school in the town, they considered the young people of Aranas who had to endure a long walk across town every morning and afternoon to attend school. The board of directors was then elected. Late Melgasbal Legaspi Oquendo, headed the Board of Directors together with others who gave financial support and worked together to create the school.
