Lefty McFadden Invitational
The Lefty McFadden Invitational was a mid-season college ice hockey tournament first played in 2002. It was Discontinued after 2007. History In 2002, a college ice hockey tournament was founded in honor of long-time executive Lefty McFadden. Because he had worked as a sports writer for Dayton Daily News and been both GM and vice president of the Dayton Gems, the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio was a logical place to hold the tournament. The nearest Division I team, Miami, served as host for the tournament and was conducted at the beginning of the season. Just over two years into the tournament's existence, Lefty McFadden died at the age of 81. The series survived for two more years before going on hiatus . The Wayne State Warriors men's ice hockey team competed in NCAA's Division I in the College Hockey America (CHA) conference representing Wayne State University. The university dropped their men's program at the end of the 2007–08 season. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team (UND) is the college ice hockey team at the Grand Forks campus of the University of North Dakota. The Michigan State Spartans men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Michigan State University (MSU). The team plays at the Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan, on the MSU campus. The current head coach is Adam Nightingale, who took over coaching duties on May 3, 2022, after Danton Cole was fired. Michigan State currently competes in the Big Ten Conference.
