Lefty Bowers
Norman Otis "Lefty" Bowers (August 24, 1909 – December 6, 1978), also listed as Chuck Bowers, and Jimmy Bowers, was an American baseball pitcher in the Negro leagues. He played with the Baltimore Black Sox in 1926 and 1927. Career Bowers attended Richmond High School in Richmond, Virginia, and at age 17, he received a tryout with the Baltimore Black Sox. Negro League Baseball
The Negro leagues were United States professional baseball leagues comprising teams of African Americans. The term may be used broadly to include professional black teams outside the leagues and it may be used narrowly for the seven relatively successful leagues beginning in 1920 that are sometimes termed "Negro Major Leagues". In the late 19th century, the baseball color line developed, excluding African Americans from play in major baseball leagues and affiliated minor leagues (collectively known as organized baseball).
