Leende
Leende is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Heeze-Leende, approximately 12 km southeast of Eindhoven. History The village was first mentioned in 1253 as Lieende. The etymology is unclear. Leende is a village which developed in the Early Middle Ages along the Groote Aa. A church has been known to exist since 1285. The choir of St. Petrus' Banden Church dates from around 1400. The tower is from the late-15th century. The church was restored in stages during the early 20th century. Leende was home to 1,607 people in 1840. Leende was a separate municipality until 1997, when it merged with Heeze. Heeze
Heeze is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Heeze-Leende, about 9 km southeast of Eindhoven. The Heeze Castle is located east of the town. Further east and to the north lies the Strabrechtse Heide. History The village was first mentioned in 1173 as Herebertus de Hese, and means shrubbery. Heeze is an agricultural community which developed along the Grote and . The ''heerlijkheid'' Heeze was first mentioned in 1172. A castle has been known since 1203. The current castle dates from the 15th century and enlarged and probably rebuilt in the 17th century. Between 1796 and 1798, a large English landscape garden was laid out around castle. Heeze was home to 1,814 people in 1840. In 1913, a railway station was constructed on the Eindhoven to Weert railway line. It was closed in 1977, and a new railway station opened on a new location. Achel Abbey
The Trappist Abbey of Achel or Saint Benedictus-Abbey or Achelse Kluis (which means hermitage of Achel), which belongs to the Cistercians of Strict Observance, is located in Achel in the Campine region of the province of Limburg (Flanders, Belgium). The abbey was famous for its spiritual life and its brewery, which was one of only a few Trappist beer breweries in the world. Life in the abbey was characterised by prayer, reading and manual work, the three basic elements of Trappist life. Valkenswaard () is a municipality and a town in the southern Netherlands, in the Metropoolregio Eindhoven of the province of North Brabant. The municipality had a population of in , with an area of of which is water. The name Valkenswaard stems from its history of falconers, who caught wild falcons there; ''valk'' is Dutch for "falcon". It lay on a route where falcons migrated south each year. In the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, Valkenswaardian falconers were active at many European courts, in which falconing was a beloved pastime.
