Le Bled
''Le Bled'' is a 1929 French silent film, silent adventure film directed by Jean Renoir and starring Jackie Monnier, Enrique Riveros and Alexandre Arquillière. It was shot at the Joinville Studios in Paris and location shooting, on location in French Algeria around Biskra, Boufarik and Staouéli. The film's sets were designed by the art director William Aguet. It was made to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the French conquest of Algeria in 1830. Jean Renoir
Jean Renoir (; 15 September 1894 – 12 February 1979) was a French film director, screenwriter, actor, producer and author. His '' La Grande Illusion'' (1937) and '' The Rules of the Game'' (1939) are often cited by critics as among the greatest films ever made. In 2002, he was ranked fourth on the BFI's '' Sight & Sound'' poll of the greatest directors. Among numerous honours accrued during his lifetime, he received a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in 1975. Renoir was the son of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir and the uncle of the cinematographer Claude Renoir. With Claude, he made '' The River'' (1951), the first color film shot in India. A lifelong lover of theater, Renoir turned to the stage for '' The Golden Coach'' (1952) and '' French Cancan'' (1955). Jacques Becker (; 15 September 1906 – 21 February 1960) was a French film director and screenwriter. His films, made during the 1940s and 1950s, encompassed a wide variety of genres, and they were admired by some of the filmmakers who led the French New Wave movement. His father Louis Becker, from Lorraine, was corporate director for Fulmen, a battery manufacturer; his mother, Margaret Burns, of Scottish and Irish descent, managed a fashion house in rue Cambon near Chanel in Paris. Enrique Riveros Fernandez (1906–1954), was a Chilean actor who worked primarily in films in France, most notably with directors Jean Renoir and Jean Cocteau, before retiring from the screen and moving back to Chile to raise his children. Early life and career Riveros was born in San Fernando, Chile, the eldest son of prominent businessman Enrique Riveros and Mrs. Hortensia Fernández Prado. The French conquest of Algeria (; ) took place between 1830 and 1903.
