LeRoy Franklin Mason (July 2, 1903 – October 13, 1947) was an American film actor who worked primarily in Westerns in both the silent and sound film eras. Mason was born in Larimore, North Dakota, on July 2, 1903. Career 1920s Mason's first film was ''Hit and Run'' opposite Hoot Gibson (1924). He was officially credited in '' Born to Battle'' (1926) opposite Tom Tyler and Jean Arthur. In 1926, Mason starred in '' The Arizona Streak'' opposite Tom Tyler, Frankie Darro, and Ada Mae Vaughn. ''Western Mail'' is a 1942 American Western (genre), Western film directed by Robert Emmett Tansey and starring Tom Keene (actor), Tom Keene and Fred Kohler, Jr. Plot Lucky Webster (Fred Kohler, Jr.), a member of the Rivers gang, is uneasy that they have been stealing U.S. mail when robbing trains. Doris Hill
Doris Hill (March 21, 1905 – March 3, 1976), born Roberta M. Hill, was an American film actress of the 1920s and 1930s. Early years Born and raised in Roswell, New Mexico, Hill was the daughter of rancher William A. Hill. She was educated in Fort Worth, Texas. When she was a child, Hill began dancing in public. A Warner Bros. casting director saw her dancing at the Metropolitan Theater in Los Angeles, which led to her making a screen test. Career Hill moved to Hollywood in the mid-1920s to pursue an acting career. First working as a vaudeville dancer, she received her first film acting role in 1926 when she starred alongside George O'Hara in ''The Better 'Ole''. She starred in 17 films from 1926 to 1929, and unlike many silent film stars, she made a successful transition to talking films. Priscilla Bonner (February 17, 1899 – February 21, 1996) was an American silent film actress who specialized in portraying virginal, innocent heroines. Early years Priscilla Bonner was born in Washington, D.C. on February 17, 1899. Her father, John S. Bonner, worked for Page Fence and served as an officer in Company B of the local National Guard Unit. At the start of World War I the company was activated for service, and her father started his career as an Army officer. The family often moved, and she spent much of her life in different places. She often play-acted to amuse herself, playing all the parts and shifting the sets. Granville Gustavus Withers (January 17, 1905 – March 27, 1959), known professionally as Grant Withers, was an American film actor. He began working in motion pictures during the last years of the silent era. Withers moved into sound films, establishing himself with a list of headlined features as a young and handsome male lead. Lucy Beaumont (born Lucy Emily Pinkstone; 18 May 1869 – 24 April 1937) was an English actress of the stage and screen from Bristol. Biography On Broadway, Beaumont played Lady Emily Lyons in '' The Bishop Misbehaves'' (1935) and Mrs. Barwick in ''Berkeley Square'' (1929). A 1932 revival of ''Berkeley Square'', featuring Beaumont, Miriam Seegar, George Baxter and Henry Mowbray, was staged in San Francisco by Arthur Greville Collins. Jane Novak (born Johana Barbara Novak; January 12, 1896 – February 3, 1990) was an United States of America, American actress of the silent film era. Background Jane Novak was born Johana Barbara Novak in St. Louis, Missouri to Bohemian immigrant Joseph Jerome Novak and his wife Barbara Medek. John Harron
John Harron (March 31, 1904 – November 24, 1939) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 160 films between 1918 and 1940. Born on March 31, 1904, in New York City, he was the brother of actor Robert Harron and of actress Mary Harron. Harron graduated from Santa Clara University. His film debut came in '' Through the Back Door'' (1921). After acting for Universal, he was under contract to Warner Bros. Harron "achieved great success on the silent screen but was reduced to minor roles or minor films with the coming of sound." Harron died in Seattle, Washington from spinal meningitis. ''Closed Gates'' is a 1927 American silent melodrama film based on a story by Manfred Lee and directed by Phil Rosen. It stars John Harron, Jane Novak, and Lucy Beaumont, and was released on June 1, 1927. Cast list Plot George Newell Jr. is the son of wealthy parents. In the days leading up to World War I, he disgraces himself and his family. In order to redeem himself, he enlists after the war breaks out. During battle he is injured and loses his memory. He is lovingly cared for by his nurse, with whom he falls in love. While at work, he collapses from exhaustion, and is taken to a sanitarium to recuperate.
