Laïs (band)
Laïs is a Flemish group that creates folk, and world music consisting of polyphonic close harmony songs, occasionally a cappella, based on self-composed melodies with lyrics dating back to the Middle Ages. "Laïs" is a Celtic word, meaning "voice". History Laïs' career started in 1994, when Jorunn Bauweraerts and Annelies Brosens, together with Soetkin Collier (who later became a vocalist with the Belgian folk music group Urban Trad) performed a song at a folk festival in Gooik, near Brussels. Somewhat later, Collier left the group and Nathalie Delcroix joined. They had their breakthrough after their appearance at Folk Dranouter, near Ypres, in 1996. Their debut CD album, sung a cappella as well as accompanied instrumentally by the folk rock band Kadril, was released in 1998. Kalmthout () is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality in the Belgium, Belgian province of Antwerp (province), Antwerp. London Chamber Orchestra
The London Chamber Orchestra (LCO) was a British chamber orchestra based in London. LCO performed at various concert halls across London and toured Asia, the UK, Europe and the United States. The orchestra gave its last performance in February 2024 and officially closed in February 2025. History The name London Chamber Orchestra was first used in 1921 by the English conductor, organist, pianist and composer Anthony Bernard in December 1921. He conducted the first LCO performance, in the salon of No. 4 St James's Square, on 11 May 1921although the same players performed together as early as 1920 under a different name. Anthony Bernard continued to manage the LCO through the second world war and died on 6 April 1963 aged 72. Cajun Music
Cajun music (), an emblematic music of Louisiana played by the Cajuns, is rooted in the ballads of the French-speaking Acadians of Canada. Although they are two separate genres, Cajun music is often mentioned in tandem with the Creole-based zydeco music. Both are from southwest Louisiana and share French and African origins. These French Louisiana sounds have influenced American popular music for many decades, especially country music, and have influenced pop culture through mass media, such as television commercials. Herman Van Veen
Hermannus Jantinus van Veen (born 14 March 1945) is a Dutch stage performer, actor, author, singer-songwriter and musician. He worked with accompanists Laurens van Rooyen and Erik van der Wurff, both of whom were pianists and composers. In addition to performing internationally, Van Veen is famous as the creator of '' Alfred J. Kwak'' (1976). The original one-man theatre show was adapted as a Dutch-German-Japanese cartoon (1989), which was broadcast internationally. In addition to creating the show's story, Van Veen also wrote, composed and performed most of the show's music. Jacques Romain Georges Brel (; 8 April 1929 – 9 October 1978) was a Belgian singer and actor who composed and performed theatrical songs. Rock Werchter is an annual music festival held in the village of Werchter, near Leuven, Belgium, since 1976 and is a large sized rock music festival. The 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2014 festivals received the Arthur award for ''best festival in the world'' at the International Live Music Conference (ILMC). It can host 88,000 guests daily, of which 67,500 combine all four days, to add up to a total maximum of 149,500 different attendees. Pinkpop is an annual music festival held in Landgraaf, Netherlands. It is usually held on the Pentecost weekend (''Pinksteren'' in Dutch, hence the name). If Pentecost falls on an early date in May, the festival is held later in June. Starting in 1970, at Burgemeester Damen Sportpark in the city of Geleen, Pinkpop is the oldest and longest running annual dedicated pop and rock music festival in the world. Pinkpop is a three-day festival, from Saturday through Monday when on Pentecost weekend, or Friday through Sunday otherwise, with a 60,000 people per day capacity, and with performances on four separate stages.
