Lazarevsky Bridge
Lazarevsky Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in St. Petersburg, Russia. It crosses the Little Nevka River, connecting Krestovsky Island and Petrogradsky Island. It is near Bolshoi Krestovsky Bridge (upstream), and Bolshoi Petrovsky Bridge (downstream). The bridge carries four lanes of road traffic and features an asymmetric design, with cable stays anchored to a pylon on the Krestovsky Island side. History The first bridge was built because of the construction of the Kirov Stadium in the Maritime Victory Park in the western part of Krestovsky Island. The bridge was initially named ''Koltovsky'' because of a historic name of the nearby area; it was renamed to in 1952 to ''Lazarevsky'', in honor of Admiral M.P. Lazarev. Little Nevka River
The Little Nevka or Malaya Nevka (russian: Ма́лая Не́вка) is the southern distributary of the Great Nevka. The Great Nevka splits into Little Nevka (the southern armlet) and Middle Nevka (the northern armlet) near the Kamenny Island's easternmost tip. There are more than 342 bridges in the city limits of Saint Petersburg, Russia. This is a partial list of the most famous ones. Peter the Great was designing the city as another Amsterdam and Venice, with canals instead of streets and citizens skillful in sailing. Initially, there were only about ten bridges constructed in the city, mainly across ditches and minor creeks. By Peter's plans, in the summer months, the citizens were supposed to move around in boats, and in the winter months when the water froze to move in sledges. However, after Peter's death, new bridges were built, as it was a much easier way of transportation. Temporary ponton bridges were used in the summertime. Admiral Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev (russian: Михаил Петрович Лазарев, 3 November 1788 – 11 April 1851) was a Russian fleet commander and an explorer. Education and early career Lazarev was born in Vladimir, a scion of the old Russian nobility from the Vladimir province. In 1800, he enrolled in Russia's Naval College. Three years later he was sent to the British Royal Navy, where he would stay for a continuous five-year navigation. From 1808 to 1813, Lazarev served in the Baltic Fleet. He took part in the Russo-Swedish War of 1808–1809 and Patriotic War of 1812. Career as an explorer Lazarev first circumnavigated the globe in 1813–1816, aboard the vessel ''Suvorov''; the expedition began at Kronstadt and reached Alaska. Maritime Victory Park (russian: Приморский парк Победы) is a municipal park on Krestovsky Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was opened in 1945 to commemorate the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. Krestovsky Island
Krestovsky Island (russian: Крестовский остров) is a 3.4 km2 island in Saint Petersburg, Russia, between several tributaries of the Neva: the Srednyaya Nevka, the Malaya Nevka and the Krestovka.
