Lawrence Puliyanath
Lawrence Puliyanath, occasionally known as Lawrence of Edakochi (8 August 1898 – 20 February 1961), was a Catholic priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cochin, declared a Servant of God. He was born in Mundamveli, Kochi, Kerala, India, and was a member of St Louis Church, Mundamveli. He joined the Diocese of Cochin, and completed his formation at the Papal Seminary, Kandy; he was ordained in 1926. He was later professor of philosophy in Alappuzha Seminary and at the same time co-vicar in St. Lawrence Church, Edacochin, where he became known as the apostle of the poor. He declined the offer of the title of Bishop of Cochin. He died in 1961 and was buried in St. Lawrence Church, Edakochi. He was declared Servant of God (the first stage towards canonisation) by Bishop Joseph Kariyil and is venerated locally. There is a small museum dedicated to him adjacent to the church. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cochin () is a Roman Catholic Diocese in Kochi, Kerala, India. A constituent of the Latin Church, the diocese was established in 1557 after the domination of the Portuguese-speaking missionaries. The diocese is a suffragan church to the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Verapoly, and serves the Latin Catholics of Malabar. Mundamveli
Mundamveli is a small town in Kochi, India, Kochi, Kerala, India. This place is situated at a distance of 12 km from the Ernakulam Railway station and 42 km from the Nedumbassery International airport. Tourist places in the area, including Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, and Kumbalangi, are within 10 km radius of this place. The Arabian Sea is situated at a distance of 0.5 km from here. Alappuzha (, आलप्पुळ) or Alleppey is a municipality and town on the Laccadive Sea in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Joseph Kariyil (born 11 January 1949) is an Indian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who was bishop of Cochin from 2009 to 2024. Biography Joseph Kariyil was born on 11 January 1949 in Arthunkal, near Alleppey. He was ordained a priest on 19 December 1973 by Bishop Alexander Edezhath at Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Fort Cochin.
