Lawrence Johnson (pole Vaulter)
Lawrence Johnson (born May 7, 1974) is an American pole vaulter. He earned the nickname "LoJo" at the University of Tennessee where he won four NCAA titles in the pole vault. Johnson began pole vaulting in 1989 and since has/holds records on all stages and led the charge to return the US to the international medal podium with two Olympic appearances, including a silver medal performance in 2000 Olympic games Sydney. Johnson resigned as Assistant Coach/Pole Vault at the University of South Carolina in August 2011 to start an online business. Johnson is best known for winning the Olympic silver medal in 2000, he also won a gold medal at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships and a silver medal at the 1997 IAAF World Indoor Championships (First American to bring back a medal in the pole vault in a major competition since 1987). Lawrence Alexander Sidney Johnson (26 June 1925 – 1 August 1997) known as Lawrie Johnson, was an Australian Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic botany, botanist. He worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, for the whole of his professional career, as a botanist (1948–1972), Director (1972–1985) and Honorary Research Associate (1986–1997). - originally published in ''Historical Records of Australian Science'', vol.13, no.4, 2001. Alone or in collaboration with colleagues, he distinguished and described four new family (biology), families of vascular plants, 33 new genus, genera, 286 new species (including posthumous publications), and reclassified another 395 species. Of the families he described, Rhynchocalyx, Rhynchocalycaceae (with B. G. Briggs, 1985) is accepted by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG). Hopkinsiaceae and Lyginiaceae, (which he and B. G. Lawrence Johnson (23 January 1801 – 24 April 1860), was born and educated in England. After an early apprenticeship in the printing industry, he emigrated to America in his youth, and became an eminent stereotyper and type-founder in Philadelphia and one of the most extensive and successful type-founders in the United States. Early life in England Lawrence Johnson was born in Kingston-upon-Hull, England, on 23 January 1801, the second son and third child of Edward Johnson and Ann Clayton. He was baptised in Holy Trinity Church on 2 March 1801. Johnson was educated in Hull and in Bungay, Suffolk, England. Laurence Naismith (born Lawrence Johnson; 14 December 1908 – 5 June 1992) was an English actor. He made numerous film and television appearances, including starring roles in the musical films '' Scrooge'' (1970) and the children's ghost film '' The Amazing Mr. Blunden'' (1972). He also had memorable roles as Captain Edward Smith of the RMS ''Titanic'' in '' A Night to Remember'' (1958), the First Sea Lord in '' Sink the Bismarck!''
