Lava (2014 Film)
''Lava'' is a 2014 American animated musical short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. Directed and written by James Ford Murphy and produced by Andrea Warren, it premiered at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival on June 14, 2014, and was theatrically released alongside Pixar's '' Inside Out'', on June 19, 2015. The short is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years. It is set to a song (also called "Lava") written by Murphy, and was inspired by the "isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes." In an interview with Honolulu-based KHON-TV, Murphy explained that his interest in Hawaii began 25 years prior while honeymooning on the main island of Hawai'i. Shortly before the film production had begun, Murphy went back to Hawaii in order to "reconnect emotionally" with the land that sprung his inspiration. James Ford Murphy
James Ford Murphy is an American animator. He started his career as an art director for Jockey which displaying layouts for the commercials of company’s underwear. And then, he later worked as an animator for commercials including Little Caesars in Calabash animation studio before he left to become an animator for video game, ''Torin’s Passage'' and afterwards move to his current company at Pixar. He directed the 2014 short film ''Lava''. KHON-TV (channel 2) is a television station in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, serving the Hawaiian Islands as an affiliate of Fox and an owned-and-operated station of The CW. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside MyNetworkTV affiliate KHII-TV (channel 9). ''Day & Night'' is a 2010 American animated short film written and directed by Teddy Newton and produced by Pixar. It was shown in theaters before ''Toy Story 3''. and has been released to purchase on iTunes in the United States. Unlike most other Pixar shorts, the animation style combines 2D and 3D elements, and '' Up'' production designer Don Shank says it is "unlike anything Pixar has produced before". ''Knick Knack'' is a 1989 American animated short film produced by Pixar that was written and directed by John Lasseter. The short is about a snow globe snowman who wants to join the other travel souvenirs in a summer-themed party. However, the glass dome that surrounds him prevents him from doing so, thus leading to his many tries to break out of his snow globe. ''Knick Knack'' is Pixar's fourth short and the final short produced during the company's tenure as a hardware company. It was also the final Pixar short film released before the company's first feature-length film ''Toy Story''. The short stands out from Lasseter's other early short films at Pixar in its reliance on pure comedy to drive the story. Submarine volcanoes are underwater vents or fissures in the Earth's surface from which magma can erupt. Many submarine volcanoes are located near areas of tectonic plate formation, known as mid-ocean ridges. A volcano is commonly defined as a vent or fissure in the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" (also known as "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World") is a medley of "Over the Rainbow" by Judy Garland and "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, recorded by Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. First released on the 1990 album ''Ka ʻAnoʻi'', an acoustic rendition of the medley became notable after its release on his 1993 album '' Facing Future''.
