Lauro Kurtz Airport
Lauro Kurtz Airport is the airport serving Passo Fundo, Brazil. Since June 5, 1959 it is named after Lauro Ignacio Kurtz (1917-1949), sometimes also written Kortz, a pilot of the airline SAVAG, killed on an air-crash in 1949. It is managed by contract by Infraero. History The airport was renovated in 2007. In January 2021 the airport was closed for the renovation of the runway and construction of a new terminal. It was re-opened on April 8, 2022. On April 4, 2022, the State of Rio Grande do Sul signed a contract of operation with Infraero. Previously the airport was operated by DAP. Airlines and destinations Accidents and incidents *1 July 1963: a Varig Douglas C-47B-20-DK registration PP-VBV flying from Porto Alegre and Carazinho to Passo Fundo collided with trees on high ground and crashed shortly before arriving in Passo Fundo. Departamento Aeroportuário (DAP) () is the department of aviation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. Viracopos International Airport
The Viracopos/Campinas International Airport (sometimes referred to as São Paulo/Campinas or São Paulo/Viracopos) is an international airport serving the municipality of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo. On 6 January 1987, the airport name was officially normalised to its present form. It is named after the neighbourhood where it is located. It is operated by Aeroportos Brasil. History The IATA airport code of Viracopos is VCP and the specific city code of Campinas is CPQ. Sometimes both codes are used as one although there is a distinction between them in airline reservation systems: VCP, together with CGH (Congonhas) and GRU (Guarulhos), is part of the multiple airport system set around the city of São Paulo (code SAO). Carazinho is a city located 246 km from Porto Alegre, in the northwest portion of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Carazinho was founded on 1931 and as of 2020 has a population of 62,265. Carazinho's primary economy is focused on agriculture. Soybeans, corn and wheat are the major products. Carazinho can be accessed via BR-285 or BR-386, which are major roads in Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre–Salgado Filho International Airport is the airport serving Porto Alegre and the region of Greater Porto Alegre, Brazil. Since October 12, 1951, it is named after the Senator and first Minister of the Brazilian Air Force Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho (1888–1950). It is operated by Fraport Brasil. History Salgado Filho was originally called São João Federal Airport, after the neighborhood where it is located. In the beginning it was an air club, where the first flights landed on May 31, 1923. In 1932, needing a facility for the fixed-gear aircraft which were replacing its seaplanes, Varig started using São João Airport as an operational base. The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota ( RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II.
