Lauren Poultney
Lauren Poultney is a British police officer and currently the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police. Early life and education Poultney attended Edge Hill University from 1992 to 1995. She holds a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies with Community and Race Relations, and an MSc in Police Leadership and Management Studies. Career In 2021, Poultney was promoted to Deputy Chief Constable and she was appointed Chief Constable in June 2021, succeeding Stephen Watson (who went onto to lead Greater Manchester Police). Poultney is the first woman to hold the position. In November 2022, following a report from the Police Inspectorate stating that senior officers in police forces across the UK had failed to tackle predatory officers, Poultney said that she planned to "root out" sexual abusers from the police force. South Yorkshire Police
South Yorkshire Police (SYP) is the territorial police force responsible for policing South Yorkshire in England. The force is led by Chief Constable Lauren Poultney. Oversight is conducted by Mayor Oliver Coppard. History The force was formed in 1974, as a merger of the previous Sheffield and Rotherham Constabulary along with part of the West Yorkshire Constabulary area (which Barnsley Borough Police and Doncaster Borough Police had been merged into on 1 October 1968). Stephen Watson (Police Officer)
Sir Stephen Watson, QPM, is a British police officer. Since 2021, he has been the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police. Watson joined Lancashire Constabulary in 1988. In 2006, he was promoted to chief superintendent and joined Merseyside Police, and later served as Area Commander for Liverpool North for three years. In 2011, he joined the Metropolitan Police as Commander for the East Area; he had over 6,000 police officers under his command. He was involved in policing in the aftermath of the 2011 riots and was a senior member of the 2012 Olympic Command Team. From 2015 to 2016, he was Deputy Chief Constable of Durham Constabulary, and from 2016 to 2021 he was the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police. Edge Hill University
Edge Hill University is a campus-based public university in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. The university, which originally opened in 1885 as Edge Hill College, was the first non-denominational teacher training college for women in England, before admitting its first male students in 1959. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement within the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester in North West England. , Greater Manchester Police employed 6,866 police officers, 3,524 members of police staff, and 560 police community support officers. 2024 United Kingdom Riots
From 30 July to 5 August 2024, Far-right politics in the United Kingdom, far-right, anti-immigration protests and riots occurred in England and Northern Ireland, within the United Kingdom. This followed a 2024 Southport stabbing, mass stabbing of girls at a dance class in Southport on 29 July in which three children were killed. The riots were fuelled by false claims circulated by far-right groups that the perpetrator of the attack was a Muslims, Muslim and an asylum seeker, in addition to broader Islamophobia in the United Kingdom, Islamophobic, racist, and anti-immigrant sentiments that had grown leading up to the protests.
