Lauren Mukheibir
Lauren Mukheibir (born October 8, 2001) is a South African rock climber who specializes in competition climbing. As of 2024, Mukheibir is the reigning female African Champion in the women's combined bouldering-and-lead climbing, lead category, and she represented South Africa at the 2024 Summer Olympics, South Africa in that category at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Climbing career Mukheibir was born in Sandton, South Africa, grew up in Bryanston, Gauteng, Bryanston, and began rock climbing when she was nine years old. In 2021, Mukheibir became the African women's continental champion in boulder, lead, and speed climbing when she won first place at the International Federation of Sport Climbing, IFSC Africa Continental Championships. At the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, Mukheibir placed 12th in the lead and speed categories and 11th in the bouldering category. Sandton, South Africa
Sandton is a financial, commercial and residential area, located in the northern part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Formerly an independent municipality, Sandton's name came from the combination of two of its suburbs, Sandown and Bryanston. History Early settlers Archaeological findings suggest the area which Sandton comprises today, had originally been occupied by various indigenous groups, before European settlement, most notably the Tswana and, to a lesser extent, Sotho people. In qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics, a total of 68 climbers, with an equal distribution between men and women, will compete across two separate competition climbing disciplines at these Games for the first time, namely: a unique competition bouldering-and-competition lead climbing combined event, and a separate competition speed climbing event. Qualification summary Boulder and lead combined A total of 40 climbers (twenty per gender) will compete in the men's and women's competition bouldering-and-competition lead climbing combined event for Paris 2024.
