Laura is a rural town in the Mid North region of South Australia, 12 km north of Gladstone on the Horrocks Highway and 40 km east of Port Pirie. The first European to explore the district was Thomas Burr in September 1842. His promising reports soon led to occupation of the district by pastoralists, one of whom was Herbert Bristow Hughes (c. 1821 – 18 May 1892). Laura Bay Conservation Park is a protected area located in the Australian state of South Australia on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula adjoining the headland of Laura Bay Point in the gazetted locality of Laura Bay about south east of the town of Ceduna. It was proclaimed on 15 February 1973. The Laura Bay Conservation Reserve which have been dedicated as a conservation reserve under the state’s ''Crown Lands Act 1929'' on 11 November 1993 was added to the conservation park on 10 July 2014. Laura Bay is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula overlooking the Great Australian Bight about north-west of the Adelaide city centre and about south east of the town centre of Ceduna. The boundaries of the locality were created in 1999 for the “long established name.” Laura Bay consists of land associated with a section of coastline that includes, from west to east, part of the east coast of Decres Bay, the promontory known as Cape D’Estrees and part of the north coast of Smoky Bay including the inlet known as Laura Bay.
