Laufer Media is an American magazine publisher, focusing on teen magazines. History ''Tiger Beat'' was started in 1965 by Charles Laufer, and brought stars such as Donny Osmond to national attention. Laufer started several more teen magazines with the same formula. These magazines were later sold to Sterling's Magazines (later Sterling-Macfadden). Scott Laufer, along with three sisters, then founded '' Bop''. Bop was sold to Primedia Primedia is a South African media group, headquartered in Sandton, Johannesburg. History Primedia was established in 1994 and its listing on the JSE Securities Exchange was completed in April 1995. Primedia remained listed on the JSE until 1 O ... in 1998. ''Tiger Beat'' was an American teen fan magazine published by The Laufer Company and marketed primarily to adolescent girls. The magazine had a paper edition that was sold at stores until December 2018, and afterward was published exclusively online until 2021. History and profile ''Tiger Beat'' was founded in September 1965 by Charles "Chuck" Laufer, his brother Ira Laufer, and television producer and host Lloyd Thaxton. The magazine featured teen idol gossip and carried articles on movies, music and fashion. Charles Laufer described the magazine's content as "guys in their 20s singing 'La La' songs to 13-year-old girls." A distinctive element of ''Tiger Beat'' was its covers, which featured cut-and-paste collaged photos – primarily head shots – of current teen idols. Donald Clark Osmond (born December 9, 1957) is an American singer, dancer, actor, television host and former teen idol. He gained fame performing with four of his elder brothers as the Osmonds, earning several top ten hits and gold albums. In the early 1970s, Osmond began a solo career, earning several additional top ten songs. He further gained fame due to the success of the Donny & Marie (1976 TV series), 1976–1979 variety series ''Donny & Marie'', which Osmond hosted with his sister, Marie Osmond. The ''Donny & Marie'' duo also released a series of top ten hits and gold albums and hosted a syndicated and Daytime Emmy Award–nominated Donny & Marie (1998 TV series), 1998–2000 talk show. It has a historical link with a company started in 1898 by Bernarr Macfadden that was one of the largest magazine publishers of the twentieth century. ''Bop'' magazine was a monthly American entertainment magazine for children 10 years of age and teenagers. It began publication in the summer of 1983 and was published by Laufer Media, which also publishes '' Tiger Beat'' magazine. The headquarters of ''Bop'' was in Studio City, California. Popular features included articles, mini-mags, interviews, and the ''Fly Free To Hollywood'' contest, where readers had to correctly guess the stars, whether it was identifying their eyes, finding their names in a word search, or identifying them by their hair (the photos had the celebrities with their faces blacked out). A spinoff magazine, ''Big Bopper'', later called ''BB'', was released in the fall of 1986 and was published until 2000.
