Lateef The Truthspeaker
Lateef Kenneth Daumont, better known by his stage name Lateef the Truthspeaker, or mononymously as Lateef, is an American hip hop artist from Oakland, California. He is a member of several hip hop groups such as Latyrx, Lateef and the Chief, and The Mighty Underdogs. He was a member of the SoleSides collective, and is a founding member of SoleSides' successor crew Quannum Projects. Life and career Lateef was raised in East Oakland, where his father was security detail for the Black Panthers. His mother, a Panther medic, was a roommate and political associate of Angela Davis. He is of African American and Puerto Rican descent. He has released several mixtapes such as ''Ahead of the Curve'' (2007), ''Truth Is Love'' (2009), and ''Truth at Sea'' (2011). His solo debut album, ''Firewire'', was released in 2011. It features contributions from Chief Xcel, Del the Funky Homosapien, the Grouch, Lyrics Born, Dan the Automator and DJ Shadow. ''The Album'' is the debut studio album by American hip-hop duo Latyrx. It was released on August 25, 1997, through Solesides Records. The recording sessions took place at Nash Studios in Oakland, The Glue Factory in San Francisco, Studio A at UC Davis college station KDVS, and Live Oak Studios in Berkeley. It was produced by Lyrics Born, DJ Shadow, and Chief Xcel. It features guest appearances from Blackalicious and John Tchicai, and contributions from Joyo Velarde and funk/jazz band Free Association. Quannum Projects, the rebranded and expanded version of SoleSides, reissued the album in 2002. Daniel M. Nakamura (born August 29, 1966), better known by his stage name Dan the Automator, is an American record producer. He is the founder of the publishing company Sharkman Music and the record label 75 Ark. Early life Daniel M. Nakamura was born in San Francisco, California, in 1966. His parents spent time in Internment of Japanese Americans, Japanese internment camps as children.
