Lasse Bjerre Jensen (born 31 October 1993) is a speedway rider who won the 2010 Under-21 World Cup with the Denmark team. Biography Bjerre was born in Esbjerg, Denmark in 1993. His brother, Kenneth (born 1984), is also a speedway rider. They have two sisters Janni and Lotte. Their parents are Ivan and Vibeke. Newcastle Diamonds were a motorcycle speedway team that raced in the British speedway leagues from 1929 to 2022. They were based at Newcastle Stadium on the Fossway, Byker. The Stadium was previously known as Brough Park. History Origins and 1930s The construction of a speedway track at Brough Park began in early 1929, under the supervision of Lindon Travers. The Newcastle team were inaugural members of the 1929 Speedway English Dirt Track League and following an open meeting on 17 May, the first league home fixture was held three days later on 20 May against Halifax Speedway. Premier League (speedway)
The Premier League was the second tier of Motorcycle speedway, speedway in the United Kingdom (with the exception of the 1995 and 1996 seasons) and governed by The Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). The Premier League was founded in 1995 when the two divisions of the British League were amalgamated. In 1997, the Elite League (speedway), Elite League was created as a new top tier with the Premier League becoming the second tier. The league operated until 2016 when British speedway was restructured with the formation of the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship. As of 2016, there were 13 teams competing in this tier of British Speedway, contesting 6 competitions for silverware. The Elite League was the top division of Motorcycle speedway, speedway league competition in the United Kingdom, governed by the The Speedway Control Bureau, Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). It was founded in 1997 and was sponsored by Sky Sports until the end of the 2013 season. Beaumont Park Stadium
Beaumont Park Stadium or the Hydroscand Arena for sponsorship purposes is a sports stadium on Beaumont Park, Leicester. The stadium is mainly used for motorcycle speedway and is the home track for the Leicester Lions. At the meeting of the Leicester City Council Planning and Development Control Committee held on 4 August 2009 the application for a speedway track at Beaumont Park was approved. The track was constructed during 2010 and opened in 2011. In 2023, the stadium changed its name (due to a sponsorship change) to the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena from the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena. Kenneth Bjerre
Kenneth Bjerre Jensen (born 24 May 1984 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is a Danish international motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 17 caps for the Denmark national speedway team. Career Bjerre began his Polish league career in 2001 for Ostrów. The following season he began his career in Britain when he joined the Newcastle Diamonds for the 2002 Premier League speedway season. Over the following decade he would become a heat leader for both Belle Vue Aces (2004 to 2006) and Peterborough Panthers (2007 to 2010). In September 2008, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2009 Grand Prix. During the 2009 Grand Prix series he finished in 8th place, which meant that he retained a permanent rider for the 2010 Grand Prix. Denmark National Under-21 Speedway Team
The Denmark national under-21 speedway team is the national under-21 motorcycle speedway team of Denmark and is controlled by the Danish Motor Union. The team started in Under-21 World Cup in all editions and won five medals: one gold (2010), two silver (2008 and 2009) and two bronze (2005 and 2006). Denmark has produced three Under-21 World Champions: Gert Handberg (1989), Brian Andersen (1991) and Jesper B. Jensen (1997). In 1977 and 1978 two Danish riders, Alf Busk and Finn Rune Jensen, was won Individual U-21 European Championship. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). The SGB Championship Fours formerly the Premier League Four-Team Championship is a contest between teams competing in the second tier of speedway in the United Kingdom. Teams are grouped into fours, with one rider from each team in each race. The winners and second place of each group competed for the Championship in the final. History The competition replaced the National League Four-Team Championship (held from 1976 until 1994). It was first staged in 1995 when the Premier League was the highest tier of British speedway because the top two divisions had merged. Team Speedway Junior World Championship
The Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship is a motorcycle speedway, speedway competition to determine the World Championship for national Under-21 teams (the sport's equivalent of the Under-21 World Cup in football). As of 2022, the event has been known as the Speedway of Nations 2, the Under-21 division of the Speedway of Nations.
