Lars Gunnar Skåål (14 September 1949 – 4 May 2022) was a Swedish water polo player. He competed in the Water polo at the 1980 Summer Olympics, men's tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Water polo is a competitive sport, competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the water polo ball, ball into the opposing team's goal (sport), goal. The team with more goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one Goalkeeper (water polo), goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep swimming pool, pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Water polo at the 1980 Summer Olympics as usual was a part of the ''swimming sport'', other two parts were swimming and diving. They were not three separate sports, because they all were governed by one federation — FINA. Water Polo discipline consisted of one event: men's team. In the preliminary round 12 teams were divided into three groups. Two best teams from each group (shaded ones) advanced to Group A of the final round to determine places 1 through 6. The rest of teams played in Group B of the final round to determine places 7 through 12. The 1980 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad () and officially branded as Moscow 1980 (), were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union, in present-day Russia. Stockholms Kappsimningsklubb, commonly known as Stockholms KK or SKK, is a Swedish swimming club from Stockholm founded on 12 July 1895, who competes in swimming and water polo.
