Larry Weinstein
Larry Weinstein (born 1956) is a Canadian film director of theatrical and television documentaries, performance films, and dramas. The majority of his films centre on musical subjects and the depiction of the creative process, while his other subjects range from the horrors of war to the pleasures of football. Biography Weinstein began to make films as a teenager while attending Earl Haig Secondary School. He went on to attend York University's film school. This led to teaming up with Barbara Willis Sweete and Niv Fichman to co-found Rhombus Media in 1979. Weinstein's directorial debut came in 1984's ''Making Overtures: The Story of a Community Orchestra'', which was nominated for an Academy Award for Academy Award for Documentary Short Subject, Best Documentary Short and won the first-ever Gemini Award, Best Documentary Gemini Award in Canada. The Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema (formerly the Bloor Cinema and the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema) is a movie theatre in the Annex district of downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located on the 506 Bloor Street West, near its intersection with the Bathurst Street and the Bathurst subway station. Giuseppi Logan
Giuseppi Logan (May 22, 1935 – April 17, 2020) was a jazz musician, originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who taught himself to play piano and drums before switching to Reed (instrument), reeds at the age of 12. At the age of 15 he began playing with Earl Bostic and later studied at the New England Conservatory. In 1964 he relocated to New York and became active in the free jazz scene. Biography Logan played alto and tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, piano and oboe. He collaborated with Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders and Bill Dixon before forming his own quartet made up of pianist Don Pullen, bassist Eddie Gómez (musician), Eddie Gómez and percussionist Milford Graves. After Pullen's departure, pianist Dave Burrell joined the group. Logan was a member of Byard Lancaster's band and toured with and appeared on records by Patty Waters. Adolphe Sax
Antoine-Joseph "Adolphe" Sax (; 6 November 1814 – 7 February 1894) was a Belgian inventor and musician who invented the saxophone in the early 1840s, patenting it in 1846. He also invented the saxotromba, saxhorn and saxtuba, and redesigned the bass clarinet in a fashion still used in the 21st century. He played the flute and clarinet. Early life Antoine-Joseph Sax was born on 6 November 1814 in Dinant, in what is now Belgium, to Charles-Joseph Sax and his wife Marie-Joseph (Masson). While his given name was Antoine-Joseph, he was referred to as Adolphe from childhood. ''Inside Hana's Suitcase'' is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Larry Weinstein and released in 2009. Adapted in part from Karen Levine's book ''Hana's Suitcase'', who originally received Hana's Suitcase, the film centres on the story of Hana Brady, a young Czechoslovak Jewish girl who died in the Holocaust, including the reminiscences of George Brady, her sole surviving brother who emigrated to Canada following the war. The film also follows the journey of Fumiko Ishioka who tried identifying the owner of the Suitcase. The film premiered in February 2009 at the Victoria Film Festival. It was subsequently screened at the 2009 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, where it was second runner-up for the Hot Docs Audience Award. Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich, group=n (9 August 1975) was a Soviet-era Russian composer and pianist who became internationally known after the premiere of his First Symphony in 1926 and thereafter was regarded as a major composer.
