Larry R. Powell is a former Republican member of the Kansas Senate who represented the 39th district from 2013 until 2017. A fourth generation Kansan from Kalvesta, Kansas, he was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives representing the 117th district, from 2001 to 2013. He was born in Kalvesta, Kansas. Powell is anti-abortion and is an advocate of the Second Amendment. He is a supporter of local schools, family farms, and opposes tax increases. He is a Garden City rancher, and is married to Myrna Powell. Kansas's 39th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Republican John Doll since 2017, following his defeat of incumbent Larry Powell in the 2016 Republican primary. Geography District 39 is based in Garden City and surrounding areas in the southwestern corner of the state, covering all of Finney, Grant, Greeley, Hamilton, Haskell, Kearny, Morton, Stanton, Stevens, and Wichita Counties. Other communities in the district include Ulysses, Hugoton, Elkhart, Lakin, Holcomb, Syracuse, Sublette, Leoti, and Johnson City. Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas Chamber of Commerce (KCC) is a statewide business and industrial coalition in the state of Kansas. History KCC was founded in 1924 by representatives of 40 local chambers of commerce, who met in Hutchinson, Kansas. The founders focused on improving the state's highways. Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation ( pot, Mshkodéniwek, formerly the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Indians) is a federally recognized tribe of Neshnabé (Potawatomi people), headquartered near Mayetta, Kansas.
