Larrey, Côte-d'Or
Larrey () is a commune in the Côte-d'Or department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. It is situated on the Cremant Road and near the future National Park of Forests of Champagne and Burgundy. Geography The village is situated at 231 metres above sea-level, and the chateau at 263 metres. Larrey lies at the foot of the hills of the Châtillonnais forest. Wine grapes are grown on the hills. History In 1430, the chateau was besieged during the Hundred Years War. On 26 February 1430 the Burgundian nobility gathered at Semur-en-Auxois to resist the Duke of Burgundy's enemies, who had recently captured the chateau in Larrey. The enemies in question were the English, who had seized the possessions of the Duke of Burgundy at Candlemas (about 2 February 1430). Dominique Jean, Baron Larrey (8 July 1766 – 25 July 1842) was a French surgeon and soldier best known for his service in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. An important innovator in battlefield medicine and triage, Larrey invented the flying ambulance and is sometimes considered the first modern military surgeon. Early life and career Larrey was Born in Beaudéan, and the second of three children to Jean Larrey, a shoemaker, and Philippine Perès. His father died in 1780, When Larrey was only 13 years old. He was then sent to live with his uncle Alexis, a surgeon in Toulouse where he learned his first medical skills. After an 8-year apprenticeship, he went to Paris to study under Pierre-Joseph Desault, who was chief surgeon at the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris. His uncle gave him a letter of introduction but money was scarce and Larrey walked all the way from Toulouse to Paris. Isaac ( ; ; ; ; ; ) is one of the three patriarchs of the Israelites and an important figure in the Abrahamic religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and the Baháʼí Faith.
