Dionysius Lardner
Dionysius Lardner FRS FRSE (3 April 179329 April 1859) was an Irish scientific writer who popularised science and technology, and edited the 133-volume '' Cabinet Cyclopædia''. Early life in Dublin He was born in Dublin on 3 April 1793 the son of William Lardner and his wife; his father was a solicitor in Dublin, who wished his son to follow the same calling. After some years of uncongenial desk work, Lardner entered Trinity College, Dublin, in 1812. He obtained a B.A. in 1817 and an M.A. in 1819, winning many prizes. He married Cecilia Flood on 19 December 1815, but they separated in 1820 and were divorced in 1835. About the time of the separation, he began a relationship with a married woman, Anne Maria Darley Boursiquot, the wife of a Dublin wine merchant of Huguenot ancestry. Demi Lardner is an Australian comedian based in Sydney. In 2013, she won Raw Comedy in Melbourne and went on to win So You Think You're Funny? in Edinburgh for her comedy set. James Carrige Rushe Lardner
James Carrige Rushe Lardner (22 May 1879 – 3 May 1925) was an Irish Nationalist Member of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for North Monaghan, 1907–18. Born at the Diamond, Monaghan, he was the son of Hugh William Lardner, a traveller for a wine merchant, and Anne Loughran. He was educated at a Christian Brothers' school, at St Macartan's College, Monaghan, and at Clongowes Wood College, Co. Kildare. He became a solicitor in 1900 and a barrister in 1913, being a member of both King's Inns, Dublin, and Gray's Inn, London. He became a K.C. (King's Counsel) in 1921 and a bencher of King's Inns in 1924. In 1920 he married Rita, daughter of Sir Joseph Downes of South Hill, a Nationalist alderman and High Sheriff of Dublin and a director of Hibernian General Insurance. They had two sons. John Lardner
John Lardner (born 10 May 1972 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a former professional snooker player. His best performance came in the 1999 World Snooker Championship, where he reached the last 32. He reached a peak world ranking of 67th in 2000–01. Early life Lardner was born in Glasgow in 1973. He left school early to spend time practising snooker, confident that he could become a professional player. In 1988 Lardner won the Star of the Future award at a competition in Prestatyn. Professional career Lardner turned professional in 1991. In the 1993–94 season, he reached the final of the Benson & Hedges Championship, losing 6–9 to Ronnie O'Sullivan. John Lardner (sports Writer)
John A. Lardner (May 4, 1912 – March 24, 1960) was an American sports writer, WWII war correspondent, and author. He was the son of Ring Lardner. Career Lardner attended Phillips Academy, graduating in 1929. After one year at Harvard, he left for the Sorbonne in Paris for a year, where he wrote for the ''International Herald Tribune''. Never finishing his college degree, he elected instead to work for the '' New York Herald Tribune'' from 1931 onward, following in his father's path as a sports writer. Lardner wrote a weekly column for ''Newsweek'' called "Sport Week" until his death (he had been associated with the magazine since 1939). From 1933 to 1948, he was a sports columnist and war correspondent for the North American Newspaper Alliance. Larry Lardner
Larry Lardner, a native of Athenry, County Galway, was a Brigade Commandant for the Irish Republican Army in his locality. He was by trade a publican and a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) Supreme Council for Connacht in 1917. He, along with Liam Mellows and Pádraig Ó Fathaigh, travelled to Limerick where they were informed by Patrick Pearse at an IRB meeting that a rebellion would take place at Easter 1916. Following Ó Fathaigh's arrest, Lardner and Mellows led some hundreds of local men in occupying Moyode Castle on 26 April. Within days they were informed by a local priest that the rising had failed. He is believed to have accompanied Mellows into hiding in the Slieve Aughty for some months afterwards. Nathanial Lardner
Nathaniel Lardner (6 June 1684 – 24 July 1768) was an English Presbyterian minister and theologian. Life Lardner was born in Hawkhurst, Kent in 1684. He was the elder son of Richard Lardner (1653–1740), an independent minister, and of a daughter of Nathaniel Collyer or Collier, a Southwark tradesman. His sister Elizabeth married Daniel Neal, who studied with Lardner in Utrecht. After studying for the Presbyterian ministry in London, and also at Utrecht and Leiden, he took license as a preacher in 1709, but was not successful. In 1713, he entered the family of Lady Treby, widow of Sir George Treby, as tutor and domestic chaplain, where he remained until 1721. In 1724 he was appointed to deliver the Tuesday evening lecture in the Presbyterian chapel, Old Jewry, London, and in 1729 he became assistant minister to the Presbyterian congregation in Crutched Friars. Ringgold Wilmer Lardner Jr. (August 19, 1915 – October 31, 2000) was an American screenwriter. A member of the "Hollywood Ten", he was blacklisted by the Hollywood film studios during the late 1940s and 1950s after his appearance as an "unfriendly" witness before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) leading to Lardner being found guilty of contempt of Congress.
