Lara Baars
Lara Baars (born 23 December 1996) is a Dutch Paralympic athlete competing in shot put and discus throw events. She was born with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism. She represented the Netherlands at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and she won the bronze medal in the women's shot put F40 event. At the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, she won the silver medal in the women's shot put F40 event. At the 2018 World Para Athletics European Championships in Berlin, Germany, she won the silver medal in the women's shot put F40 event and the bronze medal in the women's discus throw F41 event. The following year, she competed in the women's shot put F40 event at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates where she finished in 5th place with a new personal best of 7.47 m. Para-athletics
Para-athletics is the sport of athletics practised by people with a disability as a parasport. The athletics events within the parasport are mostly the same as those available to able-bodied people, with two major exceptions in wheelchair racing and the club throw, which are specific to the division. The sport is known by various names, including disability athletics, disabled track and field and Paralympic athletics. Top-level competitors may be called elite athletes with disability. Competitors are typically organised into three broad categories: deaf sports, athletes with a physical disability, and athletes with an intellectual disability. The 2019 World Para Athletics Championships was a Paralympic track and field event organised by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee. It was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 7 to 15 November 2019. It was the 9th edition of the event, formerly known as the IPC Athletics World Championship prior to 2017.
