Lapse (social Network)
Lapse is a British social media platform and photo-sharing app. Co-founded by Dan and Ben Silvertown in 2021, the app offers users the ability to take and share images, as well as interact with other users' posts through comments and reactions. It also lets users form groups to collaborate to produce a digital photo collection. It gained popularity with its launch in 2021 and later in 2023 when it was re-released as invitation-only. Similar to BeReal and Dispo, a user's photo is “processed” in a “dark room” for a few hours and cannot be edited in any form, producing a grainy image style resembling that of analog photography. Branding itself as "for Friends not Followers" on Apple's App Store, it has a focus on being "authentic" on social media. History 2021 launch Lapse was originally launched in 2021 to mimic the style of a point-and-shoot camera, but refocused as a " photo dump" journal like the mobile app VSCO. After a pre-seed funding round of $1.4 million, ...

Lapse And Anti-lapse
Lapse and anti-lapse are complementary concepts under the US law of wills, which address the disposition of property that is willed to someone who dies before the testator (the writer of the will). Lapse At common law, lapse occurs when the beneficiary or the devisee under the will predeceases the testator, invalidating the gift. The gift would instead revert to the residuary estate or be granted under the law of intestate succession. If the deceased beneficiary was intended to inherit part or all of the residuary estate, then that portion of the estate would pass by intestate succession Intestacy is the condition of the estate (law), estate of a person who dies without a legally valid Will and testament, will, resulting in the distribution of their estate under statutory intestacy laws rather than by their expressed wishes. A ..., as though the testator had left no will. This rule is referred to as the doctrine of no residue of a residue, because the portion of the residu ...

Lapse Rate
The lapse rate is the rate at which an atmospheric variable, normally temperature in Earth's atmosphere, falls with altitude. ''Lapse rate'' arises from the word ''lapse'' (in its "becoming less" sense, not its "interruption" sense). In dry air, the adiabatic lapse rate (i.e., decrease in temperature of a parcel of air that rises in the atmosphere without exchanging energy with surrounding air) is 9.8 °C/km (5.4 °F per 1,000 ft). The saturated adiabatic lapse rate (SALR), or moist adiabatic lapse rate (MALR), is the decrease in temperature of a parcel of water-saturated air that rises in the atmosphere. It varies with the temperature and pressure of the parcel and is often in the range 3.6 to (2 to ), as obtained from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The environmental lapse rate is the decrease in temperature of air with altitude for a specific time and place (see below). It can be highly variable between circumstances. Lapse rate corresponds to the vertic ...

The Lapse
The Lapse was an American indie band formed in late 1997. History The band was first signed to Gern Blandsten, then Southern Records. A larger deal with Matador Records fell through in 2001. The Lapse was the duo of then boyfriend/girlfriend Chris Leo (ex-Native Nod and brother of Ted Leo) and Toko Yasuda ( Enon, ex-Blonde Redhead). They formed The Lapse after the breakup of their previous band, The Van Pelt. The Lapse had Leo on guitar and Yasuda on bass with both handling vocals. The band welcomed a long list of guest musicians over the years, including Don Devore, Justin DuClos, and Gary Keating. The group's debut album, ''Betrayal!'', was partially made up of songs Leo originally written for The Van Pelt. The follow-up, 2000's ''Heaven Ain't Happenin, deviated mainly from indie rock and was focused towards more of an experimental sound. The Lapse formally disbanded in 2001, with Yasuda leaving to join Enon. Leo went to form the Vague Angels, with Chris as primary singer/ ...

Relapse
In internal medicine, relapse or recidivism is a recurrence of a past (typically medical) condition. For example, multiple sclerosis and malaria often exhibit peaks of activity and sometimes very long periods of dormancy, followed by relapse or recrudescence. In psychiatry, relapse or reinstatement of drug-seeking behavior, is the recurrence of pathological drug use, self harm or other symptoms after a period of recovery. Relapse is often observed in individuals who have developed a drug addiction or a form of drug dependence, as well as those who have a mental disorder. Risk factors Dopamine D2 receptor availability The availability of the dopamine receptor D2 plays a role in self-administration and the reinforcing effects of cocaine and other stimulants. The D2 receptor availability has an inverse relationship to the vulnerability of reinforcing effects of the drug. With the D2 receptors becoming limited, the user becomes more susceptible to the reinforcing effects of coc ...

Lapsed (album)
''Lapsed'' was the third album by Bardo Pond. It was released on October 21, 1997, on Matador Records. Reception Like its predecessors, ''Lapsed'' received positive reviews from critics upon its release. "The achievement of Lapsed" wrote Jason Ankeny for AllMusic, "is that for the first time, it's possible not merely to get lost in Bardo Pond's music, but to let it actually lead you somewhere as well -- certainly a trip well worth taking." Pearson Greer, reviewing the album for ''Opus'', called it a "dirty album, and wonderfully so at that. Guitars are so thoroughly caked in distortion that Sabbath and the Valentines seem like they’ve been playing cotton gins all these years in comparison. Bardo Pond doesn’t just evoke heavy rock or shoegaze sensations though, they do something in between and much better." ''Chicago Reader'''s Bill Meyer was similarly positive, hailing the album as a "blazing return to earth. The group still works up open-ended, exploratory jams whose con ...

Lapsed Power
In politics and government, lapsed power is a term often used to describe a certain constitutionally granted power of government that is no longer used, according to constitutional convention. This may be because the power's original conditions of use no longer exist, making it an anachronism, or simply because the nation's political culture and attitudes have shifted, making the power appear too morally or ethically objectionable to use. However, the power still exists. Examples of lapsed powers include the reserve powers of a monarch under a constitutional monarchy. Constitutional monarchs have significant powers over matters such as the appointment of the prime minister or the veto of legislation, but in practice these powers are rarely actually used independently. Comparative public law scholar Richard Albert has theorized a related phenomenon he calls "constitutional desuetude", which occurs "when an entrenched constitutional provision loses its binding force upon politic ...

Lapsed Catholic
A lapsed Catholic is a Catholic who is non-practicing. Such a person may still identify as a Catholic, and remains one according to Catholic canon law. Interpretations The ''Merriam-Webster Dictionary'' definition of "lapsed" in relation to "lapsed Catholic" is "no longer believing or following the teachings of a religion". The ''Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus'' associates "lapsed Catholic" as one who is backsliding. Lapsing is thus not necessarily connected with a lack of belief. However, author Daniel Ford links being a lapsed Catholic with rejection of Catholic teaching, either totally or by being an " à la carte Catholic". Other sources associate the term with abandonment of practice of the Catholic religion rather than with rejection of its doctrine. Thus the ''Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary'' defines "lapsed", again in relation to "lapsed Catholic", as "no longer involved in an activity or organization", and the ''Oxford Dictionary'' speaks only of "no longe ...
