Lapse (film)
''Lapse'' () is a 2023 Brazilian short drama film written and directed by Caroline Cavalcanti. It tells the story of Bel and Juliano, two teenagers living in the suburbs of Belo Horizonte in Brazil. Bel, who is turning 18, is deaf and faces the challenges of communication by sign language. It was selected in the Generation 14plus section at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, where it had its European premiere on 20 February and got special mention in Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film award from jury. The Berlin International Film Festival (german: Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin), usually called the Berlinale (), is a major international film festival held annually in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 1951 and originally run in June, the festival has been held every February since 1978 and is one of the " Big Three" alongside the Venice Film Festival in Italy and the Cannes Film Festival in France. Tens of thousands of visitors attend each year. About 400 films are shown at multiple venues across Berlin, mostly in and around Potsdamer Platz. A short film is any motion picture that is short enough in running time not to be considered a feature film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits".
