Lappila Railway Station
The Lappila railway station ( fi, Lappilan rautatieasema, sv, Lappila järnvägsstation) is located in Kärkölä, Finland, in the village and urban area of Lappila. It is located along the Riihimäki–Lahti line, and its neighboring stations are Mommila in the west and Järvelä in the east. History When work on the Riihimäki–Saint Petersburg railway began in 1868, Lappila was one of the headquarters for workers along with Riihimäki. The nearby village of Tillola became site for the third field hospital founded for the railway workforce, after those in Oitti and Lahti. Industry began to settle in Lappila after the arrival of the railway; facilities founded include two sawmills (1897, 1908) as well as brick factories and a furniture workshop. After the last sawmill closed in 1959, Lappila's population number took a downturn after peaking in 1960 at over 700. Lappila was home to 283 inhabitants in 2018. Bruno Granholm
Bruno Ferdinand Granholm (May 14, 1857 in Myrskylä – September 29, 1930) was a Finnish architect. He served as the chief architect of Rautatiehallitus (The Railroad Board) between 1892 and 1926. Many of the station buildings he designed are still in use today, having aged surprisingly well. Granholm designed the station buildings for the Haapamäki–Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä–Suolahti, Helsinki–Turku, Kuopio–Iisalmi, Oulu–Tornio, Iisalmi–Kajaani and Savonlinna– Elisenvaara tracks. Vesijärvi Railway Station
The Vesijärvi railway station ( fi, Vesijärven rautatieasema, sv, Vesijärvi järnvägsstation) is located in the city of Lahti, Finland, in the district of Kartano. It was one end of the port and industrial siding that branched off of the Riihimäki–Saint Petersburg railway, on the west side of the Lahti railway station. History As the Riihimäki–Saint Petersburg railway reached Lahti in August 1869, a siding was built to connect the main railway to the shore of lake Vesijärvi, intertwining the railway and the waterborne traffic on the Päijänne. This was made possible not only by the siding, but also by the Vääksy canal being built in 1868-1871, which linked the two waterways together.
