Lapdock
A lapdock is a type of accessory designed to transform mobile devices, such as smartphones, into laptop-like computers by providing a display, keyboard, battery, and other essential components typically found in a laptop. Unlike laptops, lapdocks lack internal processing power, relying on the connected device (e.g., a smartphone, tablet, or mini PC) for computation. Lapdocks are most commonly used with devices that support desktop-style operating modes, such as Samsung DeX and Windows Continuum, which was a feature on Windows 10. The name ''lapdock'' is a portmanteau of ''laptop'' and ''dock'', derived from ''docking station''. History The concept of lapdocks emerged in the early 2010s with the growing desire to use smartphones for tasks traditionally performed on personal computers. One of the earliest and most notable implementations was the Motorola Atrix 4G in 2011, which could be paired with the Motorola Lapdock, allowing users to run a desktop-like environment when connecte ...

Docking Station
In computing, a docking station, port replicator (hub), or dock provides a simplified way to ''plug-in'' a mobile device, such as connect common peripherals to a laptop, or charge a smartphone. Because a wide range of dockable devices—from mobile phones to wireless mouse—have different connectors, power signaling, and uses, docks are unstandardized and are therefore often designed for a specific type of device. A dock can allow some laptop computers to become a substitute for a desktop computer, without sacrificing the mobile computing functionality of the machine. Portable computers can dock and undock hot, cold or standby, depending on the abilities of the system. In a cold dock or undock, one completely shuts the computer down before docking/undocking. In a hot dock or undock, the computer remains running when docked/undocked. Standby docking or undocking, an intermediate style used in some designs, allows the computer to be docked/undocked while powered on, but requir ...

Motorola Atrix Lapdock (1)
Motorola, Inc. () was an American multinational telecommunications company based in Schaumburg, Illinois. It was founded by brothers Paul and Joseph Galvin in 1928 and had been named Motorola since 1947. Many of Motorola's products had been radio-related communication equipment such as two-way radios, consumer walkie-talkies, cellular infrastructure, mobile phones, satellite communicators, pagers, as well as cable modems and semiconductors. After having lost $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009, Motorola was split into two independent public companies: Motorola Solutions (its legal successor) and Motorola Mobility (spun off), on January 4, 2011.
