Lanús is a partido in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, at the south of the Gran Buenos Aires urban conglomerate neighbouring Buenos Aires city. The partido has an area of , and a population of 453,500 (). Its capital is the city of Lanús. Lanús Partido is connected to the Buenos Aires city across the Valentín Alsina Bridge over the Riachuelo River. The name of the partido comes from the former land owner Anacarsis Lanús, who was a pioneer in the urbanization of the area. Remedios de Escalada is a city located in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, within Lanús Partido, Gran Buenos Aires. It covers an area of 9.95 km2 and the population was 81,465 in 2001; the demonym for its inhabitants is "escaladense." Monte Chingolo
Monte Chingolo is a town in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Located in Lanús Partido in the south of the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area. History Monte Chingolo was founded on 23 November 1815 by Juan Manuel de Rosas. The settlement was the site of ''Las Higueritas'', the first recorded abattoir in Argentina. The town grew following the opening of a Ferrocarril Provincial de Buenos Aires station in 1927, and it became the site of numerous abattoirs and other industrial establishments. The Battalion 601 Arsenal at Monte Chingolo was besieged on 23 December 1975 by the ERP, a Trotskyite guerrilla group. Riachuelo River
The Matanza River is a stream in Argentina that originates in the Buenos Aires Province and defines the southern boundary of the Buenos Aires federal district.
