Giovanni Lanza
Domenico Giovanni Giuseppe Maria Lanza (15 February 1810 9 March 1882) was an Italian politician and the eighth prime minister of Italy from 1869 to 1873. Biography Lanza was born in the Piedmontese city of Casale Monferrato. He studied medicine in Turin, the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia, then returned to Casale where he divided his energies between practising medicine and developing his 33-hectare estate in nearby Roncaglia. He studied and wrote on agricultural developments in both the practical and social aspects. Lanza was among the first in Monferrato to introduce such modern equipment as iron ploughs and seed drills, and also involved himself in the agricultural education of poor children, hoping to achieve at once “the betterment of our agriculture and the moral and intellectual betterment of our agricultural workers.” Lanza was also an active member of the Subalpine Agricultural Association of Turin and became its secretary. Cesare Correnti (January 3, 1815 – October 4, 1888) was an Italian revolutionary and politician. Life He was born in Milan of a poor but noble family. While employed in the public debt administration, he flooded Lombardy with revolutionary pamphlets designed to excite hatred against the Austrians, and in 1848 proposed the general abstention of the Milanese from smoking, which gave rise to the insurrection known as the Five Days. During the revolt, he was one of the leading spirits of the operations of the insurgents. Until the reoccupation of Milan by the Austrians, he was secretary-general of the provisional government, but afterwards, he fled to Piedmont, whence he again distributed his revolutionary pamphlets throughout Lombardy, earning a precarious livelihood by journalism. Augusto Riboty (29 November 1816 – 9 February 1888) was an Italian admiral and Minister of the Navy. Early life and career Born on 29 November 1816, in Puget-Théniers, Riboty enrolled in 1830 in the Navy School of Genoa, graduating in 1835. In 1848, he participated, on the brig ''Colombo'', in the First Italian War of Independence; he also saw service in the Crimean War while serving on the screw frigate ''Carlo Alberto''. He took part in the Second War of Italian Independence as commander of the paddle sloop ''Monzambano''. In 1860, promoted to the rank of frigate captain (''capitano di fregata'') of the newly born Italian ("Royal Navy"), Riboty was named head of the Navy School of Genoa, which he led until 1864.
