Lanyrd
Lanyrd (pronounced and named after "lanyard") was a conference directory website. It was created by Simon Willison and Natalie Downe and launched in 2010. The site was created while the couple were on honeymoon. The site compiled blog posts, photos and other coverage from events and keeps it organised by session and speaker. Users on the site were identified through the Twitter API and events were shown to users based on their contacts on Twitter. The company received $1.4 million in seed funding in September 2011, having participated in the Y Combinator startup incubator program. The company was based in the Old Street Roundabout area in London. In October 2011, Lanyrd launched an iOS app for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Simon Willison
Simon Willison is a British programmer, co-founder of the social conference directory Lanyrd, and Director of Architecture at Eventbrite. Originating from the UK, he currently resides in San Francisco, California. Simon is a co-creator of the Django Web framework and is a frequent public speaker. Currently (November 2022) he is working on the Datasette project and other related projects. Career Simon started his professional web development in 2000 as a web master and developer for the UK based website Gameplay, where he was instrumental in creating File Monster, a large games related file download site. In 2001 he left to attend the University of Bath. Whilst studying, he worked part-time for Incutio where he developed the Incutio XML-RPC Library, a popular XML-RPC library for PHP (used in WordPress and Drupal). An amplified conference is a conference or similar event in which the talks and discussions at the conference are 'amplified' through use of networked technologies in order to extend the reach of the conference deliberations. The term was originally coined by Lorcan Dempsey in a blog post. SXSW
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States.
