Language Room
Language Room is an American indie/alternative rock band based in Austin, Texas. Its members are Todd Sapio (song writer, lead vocals, guitar), Scott Graham (lead guitar, backup vocals), Matt Graham (bass guitar, backup vocals), and Sean Hill (drums). In 2014 the band changed its name to KIONA. History Sapio and Scott Graham originally met in Los Angeles, CA, where they were each pursuing careers as professional musicians. After little progress and hard luck, both became frustrated with the music scene in LA. Unbeknownst to the other, both Sapio and Graham decided to change directions by relocating to Austin. After a chance encounter during the 2007 South by Southwest conference, the two reunited and began collaborating. Scott then invited his brother Matt Graham to join the group on bass guitar. South By Southwest
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2017, the conference lasted for 10 days with the interactive track lasting for five days, music for seven days, and film for nine days. There was no in-person event in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austin, Texas; both years, there was a smaller online event instead. SXSW is run by the company SXSW, LLC, which organizes conferences, trade shows, festivals, and other events. Dixie Chicks
The Chicks (previously known as Dixie Chicks) are an American country music band from Dallas, Texas. Since 1995, the band has consisted of Natalie Maines (lead vocals, guitar) and sisters Martie Maguire (vocals, fiddle, mandolin, guitar) and Emily Strayer (vocals, guitar, banjo, Dobro). Maguire and Strayer, both née Erwin, founded the band in 1989 in Dallas, Texas, with bassist Laura Lynch and vocalist and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy. They performed bluegrass and country music, busking and touring the bluegrass festival circuits and small venues for six years without attracting a major label. In 1992, Macy left and Lynch became the lead vocalist. Alpha Rev is an American alternative rock band from Austin, Texas, fronted by Casey McPherson (formerly of Endochine). McPherson remains the group's only consistent member, although historically the core members have also included Zak Loy on lead guitar, Brian Batch on violin and backing vocals, and Dave Wiley on cello. History Casey McPherson started Alpha Rev in 2005 after the breakup of his previous band Endochine. Alpha Rev released their debut album '' The Greatest Thing I've Ever Learned'' on March 1, 2007. After releasing "The Greatest Thing" locally, the band signed an agreement with Austin startup Flyer Records and recorded an album with Dwight Baker at Matchbox Studios. Bob Schneider (born October 12, 1965) is an Austin, Texas–based musician and former lead singer of the rock band Ugly Americans. He has released around a dozen albums, mostly on his own Shockorama label. ''Lonelyland'' (2001) was licensed through Universal Records, while in 2005 distribution deal with Vanguard Records saw his albums made widely available. In 2009 he signed to Kirtland Records and put out ''Lovely Creatures'', ''A Perfect Day'', and ''Burden of Proof''. His record ''The King Kong Suite'' was released on Shockorama Records in 2015. William Matthew Noveskey (born June 16, 1976 in Adrian, Michigan, USA) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, guitarist, and bassist, best known as the bassist in the bands Blue October and Harvard of the South, and as bassist and frontman of the bands (a+)machines and Icarus Bell. Early life Noveskey moved from Adrian to Traverse City at the age of ten. He grew up in a very musical household in Northern Michigan. He had two uncles who both played bass guitar and sang in touring rock bands, his brother plays drums, and his grandparents played guitar, piano and accordion.
