Langham, Saskatchewan
Langham is a town in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is on Highway 16, surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Corman Park No. 344, and about northwest of the city of Saskatoon. The 2011 census reported a population of 1,290, with 489 homes in the community. Originally, the area was primarily settled by Mennonites. Langham was named after E. Langham, a purchasing agent for the Canadian National Railway. Langham was founded in 1904 with the building of a rail line between Saskatoon and Edmonton, Alberta. The Langham, London, is a 5-star hotel in London, England. It is situated in the district of Marylebone on Langham Place and faces up Portland Place towards Regent's Park. History The Langham was designed by John Giles and built by Lucas Brothers between 1863 and 1865 at a cost of £300,000, . It was then the largest and most modern hotel in the city, featuring a hundred water closets, thirty-six bathrooms and the first hydraulic lifts in England. The opening ceremony on 10 June 1865 was performed by the Prince of Wales. The Langham (apartment Building)
The Langham is a luxury apartment building located at 135 Central Park West on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City. After the site was unused for more than 15 years, the building was constructed between 1905 and 1907. Built at a cost of US $2 million, the structure included modern amenities, such as an ice maker in every apartment. The building was designed in the French Second Empire style by architects Clinton and Russell. It was listed as a contributing property to the federal government designated Central Park West Historic District on November 9, 1982. RAF Langham
Royal Air Force Langham or more simply RAF Langham is a former Royal Air Force station, located at Langham, northwest of Norwich in the English county of Norfolk. It operated between 1940 and 1961. The airfield was the most northerly of the wartime RAF airfields in Norfolk and its position, just from the North Sea at Blakeney, made it a suitable site for RAF Coastal Command aircraft. The airfield was built during the early months of the Second World War as a dispersal and satellite station to RAF Bircham Newton. It became operational in the summer of 1940. History The airfield was originally laid out with three grass runways. The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is a resort hotel located in Pasadena, California, that dates back to the Gilded Age. Original building (1907–1989) The original hotel on the site was built by General Marshall C. Wentworth, a US Civil War veteran, and designed by Charles Frederick Whittlesey in the Spanish Mission Revival-style. It opened in February 1907 as the Hotel Wentworth, but the structure was only partially complete, with the first four stories finished and a temporary roof. The hotel's completion had been delayed due to a shortage of construction crews caused by rebuilding in San Francisco following the 1906 earthquake. Langham Place is a commercial complex and shopping centre in Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The official opening was on 25 January 2005. The complex occupies two blocks defined by Argyle Street, Portland Street, Shantung Street and Reclamation Street. Shanghai Street separates the two portions of the complex, which are connected via two overhead walkways. A hotel is on one side of the development while the commercial elements are located on the other side. The complex was the result of an urban renewal project under Land Development Corporation, later known as Urban Renewal Authority (URA).
