Landscape Tantrums
''Landscape Tantrums'' is a demo album of ''De-Loused in the Comatorium'' by the band The Mars Volta. It was released on April 23, 2021, as part of the ''La Realidad De Los Sueños'' box set. Because ''Landscape Tantrums'' was the first attempt at recording what would become ''De-Loused in the Comatorium'', the tracks differ in various ways from the finished versions. The band recorded the album themselves before enlisting the help of producer Rick Rubin who went on to co-produce their first album along with guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López. The name, ''Landscape Tantrums'', is taken from a lyric in "Cut That City", their first officially released song from ''Tremulant''. The Mars Volta
The Mars Volta is an American Rock music, rock band formed in 2001. The band's only constant members are Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar, producer, direction) and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals, lyrics), whose partnership forms the core of the band. The band's current line-up also includes founding member Eva Gardner (bass), Omar's brother Marcel Rodríguez-López (keyboards, synths, percussion), Leo Genovese (piano, keyboard, saxophone) and Linda-Philomène Tsoungui (drums). Omar Rodríguez-López
Omar Alfredo Rodríguez-López (born September 1, 1975) is a Puerto Rican guitarist, songwriter, record producer and filmmaker. He has formed or played in several bands, including The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In, Antemasque, and Bosnian Rainbows. He was the bassist for the dub band De Facto. He has embarked on a solo career, both in studio and in concert, frequently described as experimental, avant-garde, or progressive. He has also collaborated with numerous artists, such as Damo Suzuki, John Frusciante, El-P, Mon Laferte and Calle 13. Early life Rodríguez-López was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in El Paso, Texas, and spent some of his childhood in South Carolina. The Ramrod Tapes
''The Ramrod Tapes'' is an unofficial, leaked compilation of songs by The Mars Volta. The tracks surfaced on the fan forum, The Comatorium, in August 2013 and featured a collection of fifteen demos and outtakes. A user on the forum claimed to have received a private message containing the tracks with instructions to disseminate them online. Many of the songs would go on to be released on Omar Rodriguez-Lopez solo albums. Overview In August 2013, months after The Mars Volta had officially been disbanded, a group of fifteen tracks appeared on the fan forum, The Comatorium. ''De-Loused in the Comatorium'' is the debut studio album by American progressive rock band The Mars Volta, released on June 24, 2003, on Gold Standard Laboratories and Universal Records. Based on a short story written by lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala and sound manipulation artist Jeremy Ward, the concept album is an hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who enters a week-long coma after overdosing on a mixture of morphine and rat poison. The story of Cerpin Taxt alludes to the death of El Paso, Texas artist—and Bixler-Zavala's friend—Julio Venegas (1972–1996). Co-produced by Rick Rubin and guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López, it is the only studio album to feature founding member Jeremy Ward, who was found dead in an apparent heroin overdose one month before the album was released. Cedric Bixler-Zavala (born November 4, 1974) is an American musician. He has been the lead singer and lyricist of the progressive rock band the Mars Volta since its inception in 2001. He was the lead singer and only constant member of the post-hardcore group At the Drive-In, the lead singer of the band Antemasque, and singer and guitarist in the band Zavalaz. Early life Cedric Bixler-Zavala was born as Cedric Bixler in Redwood City, California.
