Landing Zone Oasis
Landing Zone Oasis (also known as LZ Oasis or LZ Tuttle) is a former U.S. Army base southwest of Pleiku in central Vietnam. History The base was first established in 1965 by the 1st Cavalry Division for the Battle of Ia Drang, just south of QL-19 and approximately 24 km southwest of Pleiku. The base was originally named after SSGT Arlen Tuttle, an Engineer from the 8th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division who was killed in action on 5 November 1965. The base was reopened in May 1966 by Task Force Walker of the 25th Infantry Division. The base was later used by the 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. On 11 May 1969 the base was attacked by an estimated 600 People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) troops, resulting in 11 U.S. and approximately 100 PAVN killed and 3 U.S. captured. 1st Cavalry Division (United States)
The 1st Cavalry Division ("First Team") is a combined arms division and is one of the most decorated combat divisions of the United States Army. It is based at Fort Hood, Texas. The 14th Field Artillery Regiment is a parent field artillery regiment of the United States Army, currently represented in the Regular Army by its 1st Battalion, a HIMARS unit with the 75th Field Artillery Brigade at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. 10th Cavalry Regiment (United States)
The 10th Cavalry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. Formed as a segregated African-American unit, the 10th Cavalry was one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" regiments in the post–Civil War Regular Army. It served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States, the Spanish–American War in Cuba and in the Philippine–American War. The regiment was trained as a combat unit but later relegated to non-combat duty and served in that capacity in World War II until its deactivation in 1944. The 10th Cavalry was reactivated as an integrated combat unit in 1958. The 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is an air defense unit of the United States Army. History World War I The regiment was constituted on 23 December 1917 in the Regular Army as the 60th Artillery, Coast Artillery Corps and organized at Fort Monroe, Virginia, comprising Regular Army companies and National Guard companies from Virginia and the District of Columbia. The Battle of Ia Drang (, ; in English ) was the first major battle between the United States Army and the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), as part of the Pleiku Campaign conducted early in the Vietnam War, at the eastern foot of the Chu Pong Massif in the central highlands of Vietnam, in 1965. It is notable for being the first large scale helicopter air assault and also the first use of Boeing B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers in a tactical support role.
