Lamplugh Railway Station
Lamplugh railway station was built by the Whitehaven, Cleator and Egremont Railway. It served the scattered community of Lamplugh, Cumbria, England. History The station opened on 2 April 1866 as "Wright Green", the hamlet in which it was located. The owning company was taken over by the LNWR and Furness Railway in 1879 as a Joint Line, whereafter the northern section through the station was usually worked by the LNWR. Passenger traffic consisted of three trains a day in each direction, with an extra on Whitehaven market day and none on Sundays. From opening, northbound passenger trains terminated at Marron Junction station where passengers changed for destinations beyond. In 1897 Marron Junction station closed, with trains running west through to Workington Main thereafter, a much better arrangement for most passengers. Lamplugh
Lamplugh () is a scattered community and civil parish located in West Cumbria on the edge of the English Lake District and historically part of Cumberland. It had a population of 763 in 2001, increasing to 805 at the 2011 Census. The main A5086 road from Cockermouth to Egremont runs roughly north–south through the community. The Whitehaven Cleator and Egremont Railway, later LMS, also ran through the parish, with a station in Wright Green. North of Rowrah this lost its passenger service in 1931 and was closed to all traffic in 1954. Unusually, the village has no obvious centre. While St. Michael's church is built on the highest point in the village, the local pub, the Lamplugh Tip Inn, is over a mile away on the A5086. Camerton (LNWR) Railway Station
Camerton railway station was situated next to the River Derwent on the Cockermouth and Workington Railway. It served the village of Camerton, Cumberland (now Cumbria), England. History The station opened on 28 April 1847. It closed to regular passenger traffic on 3 March 1952, closing completely when the line closed on 18 April 1966. In later years the by then DMU-operated 09:52 westbound from Carlisle (10:20 from Penrith) made a regular unadvertised Fridays Only call at the station, though there was no balancing call. Cockermouth, Keswick And Penrith Railway
The Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway (CK&PR) was an English railway company incorporated by Act of Parliament on 1 August 1861, to build a line connecting the town of Cockermouth with the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) West Coast Main Line at Penrith. Arrangements for the use of the stations at either end (Cockermouth was already served by the Cockermouth and Workington Railway (C&WR)) were included. Cockermouth And Workington Railway
The Cockermouth & Workington Railway was an English railway company (established by Act of Parliament in 1845) which built and operated a railway between the Cumberland towns of Workington and Cockermouth. The railway opened for service in 1847, and ran from the Whitehaven Junction Railway station at Workington to a station at Cockermouth near the bridge over the Derwent. A single-tracked line of eight and a half miles length, its revenue came largely from the transport of coal from the pits of the lower Derwent valley to the port at Workington for shipment by sea. Rowrah Railway Station
Rowrah railway station was built by the Whitehaven, Cleator and Egremont Railway. It served the village of Rowrah, Cumbria, England. Local lines Rowrah was connected by three separate railway companies: * The Whitehaven, Cleator and Egremont Railway curving southwest to north through the station. * "Baird's Line" - a branch of the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway arriving at Rowrah from the northwest, and * The Rowrah and Kelton Fell Railway which conveyed minerals from mines in the hills to the southeast. Parton Railway Station
Parton railway station is a railway station serving the village of Parton in Cumbria, England. It is on the Cumbrian Coast Line, which runs between and . It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. Immediately north and south of Parton, the line runs almost on the seashore, at the foot of cliffs which require supervision and occasional stabilisation to prevent landslides. Sea erosion is also a danger, and 15 m.p.h speed restrictions are in force over much of the section between here and Harrington, which is restricted to a single line. Distington () is a large village and civil parish in Cumbria, England, south of Workington and north of Whitehaven. Historically a part of Cumberland, the civil parish includes the nearby settlements of Common End, Gilgarran and Pica. The Borough of Copeland is a local government district with borough status in western Cumbria, England. Its council is based in Whitehaven. It was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the Borough of Whitehaven, Ennerdale Rural District and Millom Rural District. Marron Junction Railway Station
Marron Junction railway station was a later addition to the Cockermouth and Workington Railway. It opened on 2 April 1866 with a single, eastbound, platform when the adjacent Marron Junction opened, two months before the company was absorbed by the London and North Western Railway. In 1874 an island platform was added to the south of the main east–west line, opposite the single eastbound platform. giving three platform faces.
